How rare is my car?

This weekend I bought a 1996 I30 5speed. It had everything I wanted except for the fact that it had cloth seats (which I didn't even know infiniti made for I30's). When I told one guy that it wasn't the T (or touring) version, he said that it wasn't possible since they only put 5spd trannys in the touring versions. Is my car one of a kind? and even though I doubt it, whats the odds of it having limited slip differential (which I've heard about being put in I30's and not maximas).

whoa...i was under the impression that only the touring models had the 5 speed option, and even then it only accounted for a very few number of I30s with the 5 speed option...hmm, maybe whoever owned it previously did a conversion or something? ...but i do have to say it looks like it is pretty rare

Nope, I bought it through the dealership (where it was purchased originally and I was given all the records of each time it was serviced) only one owner, plus I ran a carfax report on it. It seems completely legit.

How do you know it is not a touring addition one? I use to have a 5spd 98 I30T and I am pretty sure the T's were only available with a 5spd. I heard there was about 500 5spd I30's made per year.

yes! your car is rare

only in the first year production have they ever offered 5spd on regular I30 with cloth interior. I was surprised when I saw it on ebay. And went back to see my brochure...............

It's not even offered in 5spd for regular I30. But I have seen it in ebay last year or the year before. on what you have described...

Regular I30 (no spoiler)... (no leather; cloth interior).. and 5spd..

PS. does your car come with Spoiler? how about moonroof?

ME TOO! ME TOO!

I just go a 96 I30 5spd with cloth interior as well! Mayeb we should start the "Cloth interior 5spd i30 club"!

Mine has Bose, Digital Climate control, no sunroof, no spoiler, and cloth interior. It is in excellent shape, and WAY nicer than the Maxima GXE's I was seeing in the same price range. Kind of nice to have such a rare bird.

Wow, what if it does have the LSD? That would be SO cool! I thought only the i30t had it, but most people have never heard of a nontouring model 5spd, so no one really knows.

Here is a pic of the interior with cloth and a 5spd!

Was it a 96? How many miles?

How much did you pay for your car, and how many miles? WHat color is it and the interior?

I talked to my uncle who owns an infiniti dealership. He said that it had to have been ordered in 95 like that. He said thats the only time you can order a car that out of whack. Do you mind sharing your vin#? He is interested, but it does infact seem that you have a very rare car indeed, also check your tranny code. see if you have an LSD, that will truely indicate if you have an infiniti 5spd as your OEM gearbox.

Hey Louie,
Run mine too. I KNOW that this car is stock, but maybe you will be able to see if it is possible that I had an LSD also.

Thanks!

you can try by putting the car on jacks in Nuetral and turning a wheel and see if the other wheel turns in the same direction, if it does---your lsd.

I'll have him run the number, but I don't know if Nissan and Infiniti are on the same service net.

If the 4th gen Max/1st gen I30 is anything like the 3rd gen Max, there should be a tranny code on a metal plaque on your firewall. If it ends in a V, it's a VLSD tranny.

yes but you can have a VLSD that wasn't OEM with the car when it left the factory.

Doesn't he own an infiniti dealership? Should be no problem then!

I bought the i30 then sold the Maxima. The 99se was my fourth Maxima, and this i30 could qualify as my fifth. The 99 was more speculative than anything, I paid $11500 for my fully loaded 99 SE, and sold it for about $16,000. You know what that means? That means just enough cash to own my i30 free and clear.

And my i30 is just 3 years older, and great condition.

Before you flame me for going from a 99 to a 96, you need to understand that I buy alot of cars, and I make money on all of them. My favorite cars to buy just happen to be Maximas, and the occassional accord (for the resale value, buy them at auction and sell them and generally make $1500-$2500 each time.)

I have talked with you before, I used to live in Logan, UT and am now in Idaho Falls. I chatted with you alittle in the WESTCOAST forum on the Utah thread about my i30 I just bought.

I will try to get a good i30 pic in my sig right away!

OK, my sig now has some (crappy) pics of my i30. These are the ones I took when I was looking to buy it....I need to get a better shot where the foggy headlights aren't the focal point of the pic!!

Yup the car has no spoiler or moonroof, and after just checking out the tranny # under the hood, I found out that it does in fact have LSD. I'm pretty stoked about the whole thing.

Is it just me, or does your car have 97-99 SE cloth seats?

Awesome about the LSD! Where did you find your tranny tag? My wife has the car for a few days, and I can't check it! Aaarrrrgggh! I need to find out if mine has it!

I don't know, but I do know that they dont look like GXE seats at all to me.

Its under the hood on the left side of the engine compartment. If the code ends with a "v" then your car has Limited Slip, if it ends in an "A" then it doesn't. At least thats what I've been told.
