Installed UR UDP today on automatic, question about power-steering belt
I got around to finding the belts for the UDP. I couldn't find Gates belts anywhere locally, so I ended up buying Kelly-Springfield 407K6 and 290K4 at Autozone. Those were the sizes they cross-referenced to the Gates.
I also looked for a 300K4 at Pepboys, they were out of that size so I got a 295K4 Dayco belt.
I'll write more tomorrow about the installation, but I just wanted to ask everyone who has installed the UDP if they actually used a smaller belt for the power-steering pump. I compared the UDP to the stock pulley, and the power-steering half of both pulleys looked identical in diameter, so I used the stock PS belt with the UDP. I tried the 29.5 inch belt, but it was too short. It might have fit if I had adjusted the PS pump lower.
After putting the PS belt back on, I didn't get the PS pump back to where it was before, so the tension in the belt is not what it was like stock. The belt will squeal when steering at a standstill and cold, but otherwise it's quiet. I'll readjust it when I want some aggravation.
The PS pulley adjustment is the biggest PITA I've dealt with on the Maxima so far. I hope the Y-pipe isn't that bad.
Again, has anyone re-used the stock PS belt with the UDP?
By the way, my car has an automatic transmission, so to loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt, I attached a breaker bar and blipped the starter. I removed the fuel pump fuse as a precaution.
To lock the flywheel and tighten the bolt, I couldn't find instructions in the ESM, I read GregP's instructions too (he used a hardened steel chisel), I don't know if anyone has done this before, so after removing the rear cover plate to the flywheel, I turned the crankshaft until one of the flywheel bolts appeared at the port, and I put a 14mm socket on it so the socket would hit the housing and prevent flywheel rotation.

I got the new one on but I had to loosen off the PS to the max and it was still very tight. It has stretched a bit now so is finally within the proper deflection specs.
I used the breaker bar method too, works pretty well. I just used a hammer on the end of the breaker bar to tighten.
You are right though fun job especially the PS part.

Erica, I thought the pulley was the same for 4th and 5th gens, is it not?
Can anyone confirm that the PS half of their Unorthodox Racing UDP is the same diameter as the stock pulley like mine is, or if that side was significantly smaller than stock? That would mean that it's only under-driving the AC compressor and alternator, not the power-steering pump. My smaller PS belts would not have fit unless I shifted the pump a LOT.
