I've got 225/40/R18 on my 18x7.5
I'd say 225, 235s probably won't look flush.

 

It is a general consensus that 235/45/17 is the preferred size. Since your rim is 7.5" wide, it'll work out great. I have 17X7 with 225s, they say the max tire on 7s is 225.

17x7.5 with 235/45/17 . . . .go for it
