Best Tires on the Market...

Hey guys it's new tire time (good ole Z's last SO LONG as we all know). I have the Falken GRB's right now, but they weren't all too impressive. Any recommendations on what and where I should by a new set? I'm looking for longetivity/comfort over performance and need them in a 225/45/17 size. I wanna spend $120-$200/tire. I don't wanna mess up and get poor tires again, so PLEASE help. Thanks !

Well, Toyo T1-S is second only to a select few tires in ultimate grip, and also has a great 280 treadwear rating. FAR higher than the tires it competes with, such as the Michelin Pilot, Yoko AVS Sport, Pirelli P Zero and Bridgestone S0-2/3 series.

You'd be looking at about 170/tire for the T1-S, and you'd get performance to rival the tires I listed above, yet twice the treadwear. I am in love with my T1-Ss.

Toyo Proxes TS-1
Dunlop SP9000

Although the dunlop loose traction and feel after 20k miles or so...

The toyo's are outstanding but if you beat on the tires (both sets) will go in 25k

Pirelli P7000 SuperSports Z rated have lasted me 45K miles and have been very reliable when I needed them. A little noisey, but not too expensive.

If you want all out performance and cost isn't an issue, hook it up woth Bridgestone Potenza S03's...

Although I haven't owned a set, I've heard uniformly good things about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

On the other hand, I've heard some negative reports recently on Kumho ECSTA Supra 712s . . . something about them being out of round.

ya know, I beleive that tires are the most essential part of your automobile. Don't try to save money by going cheap or generic. Larger name brand companies have more money and therfore spend that much more money in Research and Development to make you safer on the road.

I had the 7000SSes too. If you think they are good, look into the 7000 non SS. Same tread pattern but stickier compound and half the lifespan of the SS.

Bridgestone Potenza S03 or Pirelli P if you can afford to replace them every 10K miles.

If not, Dunlop SP9000, Toyo Proxy T1S or Bridgeston RE730 would do the trick.

Then there are plenty of cheaper Z tires. Kumho Supra 712, Falken FK541, Nitto NT-555...but you get what you pay for in this price range.

Its so nice to see my words typed by someone else finally...

A car is only as good as the tires it rides on. There is no saving money on tires.

PS nitto's are prone to bubble from what ive seen/heard

My Pilot Sport A/S are fantastic. Haven't tried the rest but it would be hard to beat these. They aren't cheap though.

just FYI, i got my 245/40/18 S-03s today. they weigh in at exactly 27lbs a piece.

according to Michelin, their Pilot Sports in the same size weigh in at 25.8lbs. not too much difference.

Agreed. Wet traction is simply fantastic. No more noise than the original RE92's. FYI, the RE92's had a tread wear rating of 160, and at 25,000 had 60% tread left. The SO-3 has a wear rating of 220. We'll wait and see how long they last. IMO, worth every penny.

I don't know if it's my H&R/AGX + FSTB + RSB,

but I think the Bridgestone Potenza RE730s (z-rated) are great tires. I used to HATE them, but after getting a 5-speed with my 17x7.5 wheels wrapped with these tires, it greatly compliments all aspects of performance. But these tires are made ONLY for performance. They're pretty rough and noisy during moderate to high speeds.
