Got a set of B & G Springs today

A fellow .org member posted some items for sale, one of which was a set of H&R springs. So I said WTF, bring them on. The price was good, so no complaints. UPS comes today and 2nd day air, as requested a box with my name on it was dropped off at the receiving dock at my company. When I went to claim my prize, I was slightly suprised to see a box with B&G Performance Suspension on it. Slightly ****ed, I took the box home. The guy I baught them from said they are practically new. Well he was right, only he had the brand wrong. These look brand new. Not even a scratch on them. Besides that, there bright red which match the AGX struts I have. But I'm still a bit ****ed.

After reading every thread on B&G springs on this board, and trust me there's enough of them, I think I'm a happy guy again. It appears these springs are excellent and provide a similar ride to H&R only with a slightly more agressive drop. Sounds good to me so far. Then I read posts about a saggy rear end, I'm not happy any more. Then I read that it appears that happens with manual trannys and I'm automatic. OK - I'm happy again.

These springs look great, the drop seems good, not to slammed, just about right, the ride..... well thats to be determined by me this weekend, Saturday to be exact.

Any comments on fellow B&G/AGX users would be appreciated.

BTW - Sig pic is my car with H&R's I guess I'll be changing that soon too.

Isn't this how it always is? I always run into this situation...I inquire about a part, find out some good things.....then some not so good things....then some good things again....the cycle never ends it seems.

Anyway, good luck on your springs. I am interested to see how the drop looks on your car as I am a 99 auto as well.

njmax maybe I can finally help you for once I have B&Gs and love them. I also know 2 other people with B&G/AGX in my area and they like them as well. Out of the three of us 2 are manual and 1 is auto. The auto sits even and looks great with no spring noise, but he did wrap his springs (cmcknite). The other manual (EuroMaxima99SE) has no noise without wrapping the springs. I have noise even though I wrapped the springs, but I also used the KYB front strut mounts and bearings. After doing many searches and debating with members I'm convined that the noise is from the mounts.
On autos the B+Gs sit level and are dropped more than H&Rs. On my car my rear is lower than another Max who had Sprints, but his front was lower. As long as you wrap the springs I think you should be set. I know you want to maintain a nice ride so I would suggest 1/2 for everyday driving (which is what I use).
I can't find a big picture of cmcknite's car, but he has them somewhere. This thread should tell you what you need to know, and if you have more questions Chris is the man to ask

I have that combo, so does EuroMaxima99. It rides just fine to me. xHypex has taken a test spin with me. And yep the back does sag but, very slighly. Most people don't notice.

If you dont want sag in the rear, You sould consider Apex springs, same drop with no sag.

These are excellent springs. Just remember when you install, that the rear springs will correctly fit upside down. The lettering on the springs "B & & Suspension" will be upside down for the rears. Front's are okay with letters facing up (readable)

You will love these...

The H&R's you were supposed to receive, were the used or new($225 or so) and aren't B&G's new around $180?

although i don't have B&G springs i was told by eibach that the springs should fit with the lettering "right side up." i know the spring doesn't seem to fit, but once the weight is on it, it seats fine and the rear end doesn't sag. i mounted them the way you described (upsidedown) and i got a dramatic sagging rear end. for eibach's the tighter coils are on the bottom; letter's facing up. i'm sure all progressive springs should be the same. lettering should be legible for both ends. i'd call the manufacturer first before mounting.

B+Gs are now $159 from shox.com so I got mine for $179 shipped. Also my rear springs are installed lettering up which I believe was correct. How exactly do you know which way they are supposed to be?

wow. that is a great deal for springs! the best bet is to call the manufacturer's tech line and ask. i did that just to make sure because my eibachs really didn't seem to sit well. it almost seemed like the bottom coil would fall off the perch! but once the car's weight was on it, it seats pretty securely. and the fendergap is even front and rear.

My springs are installed lettering side up. Looking at the coils doesn't really tell you much because the top looks like the bottom to me

Can anyone shed some light on this? I do know someone who installed the B+Gs upside down, but he said he got a lot of noise. I don't have any noise in the rear so that's one reason I think the springs are installed correctly. B+Gs do tend to sit lower in the rear on manual transmissions.

The reason I installed my rear with lettering upside down for that was the only way it would sit...and it sat perfectly.
With the lettering straight up, it would not sit...PERIOD!
The other way to be sure, compress the springs using your body weight & see how it compresses. The top should compress more than the bottom...
Right after I installed it, I took it to 2 different shops & confirmed that they were indeed installed correctly.
No noise whatsoever...

The slightly progressive winds on the stock SE rear spring are on top. Thats how the B&G's appear with the lettering up, so thats the way there going in. The fronts look almost the same upside down as they do right side up. I'm going to put B&G facing up. As long as the coils start and stop in the correct place on the upper and lower perch, things should be good.

I went to my local speed shop today and picked up a sheet of headder gasket. The strut mounts, both front and rear on our cars have a paper like gasket on top. I'm going to upgrade that to headder gasket material. I think that may also provide more noise dampening from the strut mount to the upper body. It's a bit thicker then the stock paper gasket.

I'll try to post pics of the entire process and make a web page out of it. I'll include a detail pic of the sequence of assembly of both front and rear. A lot of guys screw up and forget what goes where. That should help out a bit.

Thanks for all the feedback guys and girls (Ms. Lime - nice jacket)

Great idea! Do you have good web skills? I have some space and a buddy of mine is a web developer, unless you care to take on the makings of a suspension web page. Lets come up with some good stuff together.

You probably already know this, but WRAP THE TOP 3 COILS OF THE FRONT SPRINGS!! I didn't and now I have noise but only from the front, the back is fine without any wrapping. Also, all of my springs are right side up.

if it makes a groaning sound when you turn full lock either when stopped or barely crawling then you need new strut bearings. i think mine are shot. i heard it's not a high priority though.
