Just received the new R & T and they have an 11 car comparison test and for what seems like the first time ever, a car other then a 3 series BMW came in first. The new G35
0-60 in 6.2 seconds, 14.7 Quarter mile and a top speed of 151mph. I wonder if the 2002 Maxima with 5 less ponies could hit 150mph?

how could they get 14.7 in a 260 HP AUTOMATIC G35 but couldnt do better than mid to low 15s for a 255 HP 6 speed maxima?

seems like they're doing that on purpose

Don't forget that it is also carrying an extra 5hp and 15lb of torque over the max.

i know. i put the HPs in my orginal statement. 5 HP would not account for more than a half a second difference in 1/4 times.

And when put thru the automatic trans. of the g35, that extra power would be nilled.

One word:

WHEELHOP!!!!!!!!

The rwd G35 would be far easier to launch. Just ask MaxRPM. The key number in all of the above stuff would be the trap speed. That will tell you how much power is getting to the wheels.

I've hit an indicated 240 km/h (149.xxx mph) in my 6spd. I'm not sure how accurate the speedo is at that speed, but at 200 km/h it is dead on (verified by GPS). My car was still pulling hard and had plenty left. I think it would hit 155 mph. This was without Frankencar, btw.

Yup. Hard to launch a FWD car, especially a very powrefull one.

2 things...

1) Rear wheel drive is far easier to launch 255 HP and 246 torque is a lot for a front wheel drive.

2) The magazines do not slip/fry the clutch, like many of you do here to get your low ETs.

Exactly. Not only that, but do the mags;

1) Lower the front tire pressure to help launch?
2) increase the back tire pressure to reduce rolling drag?
3) Take out the spare tire?

The Mags give the most accurate representation of a car's capability because they leave everything completely stock and normal.

Right...

I slipped the clutch, reduced air pressure in my front tires, ran the car on a few gallons of gas, took out the spare and I ran a 14.7 with my 6 speed Max. The magazines are not going to do all that.

my auto max ran 14.8 with just intake (but to counter that I have heavy 18s and a sound system)-I didn't lower my pressure, take out my spare, manually shift, or even brake tq. so I think the mag times are a bit slow.

I'm interested in AndyXXL's reply to this >>

In my opinion, the BMW is still more of a driver's car. Aesthetic's aside, the only thing the G35 really has over the 3 is that it is more bang for the buck.
