Recieved ticket for Piaa Extreme White Bulbs

Tonight at the Berlin Turpike i received a 60 dollar ticket for my piaa extreme white side markers. The cop insisted they were blue. I offered to get out of the car remove to bulb and show him... At that time he told me if i got out of the car he would write me up for asualt. I usually have respect for police but this i feel is rediculous. this is my first ticket and it is for the one legal thing on my car. or are these bulbs not legal? Also i am going to plead not guilty, but is there some other way i can get out of this rediclous ticket without going through all the court dates and everything?

The only colors legal in he front sidemarker and the regular plain clears, or ambers.

For the rear just red.

That usually means for the headlights and foglights.

For the sidemarkers, and the 1157 and 1156 it is different.

Doesn't matter. If the State law states guidelines about light color, you have to abaide by those guidelines. I'm in Maryland, so for us, it's illegal to have any color besides amber in the sidemarkers.

assault is just the threat or the intent to cause harm. battery is actually carrying out the threat.

but getting out of the car just to show the cop something isnt a threat. his intent was not to harm anyone.

i've learned that the best thing to do is ask the officer if it is ok before performing any action. for example, when the officer asks for your license and registration, say something like, "officer, my license and registration is in the glove compartment. is it ok to get them out from there?" the reason why it's good to ask the officer is so that the officer doesn't feel threatened that you might pull out a gun instead of the registration from the glove compartment. so, in this case, the cop could have been thinking that if MAXEJA stepped out of the car, he would attack the officer... just my $0.02

getting out of the vehicle against the officers wishes is illegal. if you try that stunt you'll get slapped with a few more charges. they probably wont stick in court but you'll get bltched out by the judge. remember, the police dont protect our rights. theyre only there to keep us "safe." attorneys protect our rights. thats what my signature is for.

In NY any hyperwhite bulbs in side markers or corners are illegal. The only colors you are allowed to have are amber in the front and red in the rear. PIAA Xtreme Whites may be called "Xtreme WHITE", but we all know they have a blue tint to them, and are not even close to amber or red.
One more thing, if you had gotten out of the car to show him the bulb, it only would have dug you deeper in a hole because the bulbs have a BLUE coating!! Duh..
Just pay the fine and forget about it. If we wanna run these bulbs, we gotta take the sh*t from the cops.
I know, it stinks...

the law states for side indicators either amber or white may be displayed. (for CT) I am displaying white. The point of showing him the bulb would be the piaa is writen on the bulb. If i do go to court and argue that i used piaa white bulbs, i did not want him to say, no he switched the bulb they were blue at the time. I had him note in his report they were piaa. I think i am just going to write a letter when i send this ticket in stating that there was nothing illegal comitted here and such. plus im on the student police relations program in my local town so that may also help me out. I have had the local police department check my car for anything illegal and all they found were the tints.

Anything that is blue on the front of a car that isn't yellow, white, orange, is illegal period. All state laws prohibit a non-emergency vehicle to have any of these colors on the front.

The cop was doing his job, when you bought those bulbs, you knew it was wrong and took the chance.

Only PIAA Headlamps are legal, meaning PIAA SUPERWHITE H4, 9004, 9003, ETC. Not sidemarkers.

Cops are jags the cops in IL. tried to give me a ticket for having clear corners until I turned the lights on to show them that the led lights were amber when lit and clear when off they also tried to bust me for having undercar neons on in my driveway! I wasnt even on the road. Each time I went to court pled not guilty and won but that just made the cops even more P.O. and now if I so much as J-walk in Kankakee county Im toast. Bottom line: cops give the tickets not caring what the laws are, its up to us to prove our innocence.

I did not know it was wrong and did not know i was taking a chance. I know not to so much as wink the wrong way at the turnpike. When i purchased the bulbs the site i bought it from, the man said they were legal, and i assumed extreme "white" was a white bulb. Apprently i was wrong, however the man told me the plasma blue piaas are illegal but these are called white for a reason. When i was pulled over i thought it was for my tv screen going or my neons in the car, or my indiglos or my clears, i was shocked to find out it was over this. and it is not blue, its a little less than an HID look.

go to your state's Department of Transportation website and look for bulb regulations or something of that nature.

I am almost positive that any color besided amber is illegal. I live in MA but i went to skool in CT and ive known a ton of people who have been ticketed for superwhites or blue bulbs. I have plasma blues in the bumper lenses on my 2k and ive never had a problem...but they are illegal and i have just been lucky so far.

At no time when you are pulled over should you make the police feel they may be assaulted. What I mean is you should stay in your car unless asked to get out.

Hyperwhites are illegal when replacing the amber bulbs. Clear corners are also illegal if you don't have an amber reflector.
I'm in New England too and blue lights are definitely illegal because police use them as emergency strobes.

Too bad that happened. You hear all these stories about people pleading not guilty and getting out of things, but either my younger brother has bad luck or you can't do that in CT. My brother pleaded not guilty, he went to court, and apparently they told him to plead guilty or come back again. He pleaded guilty and now his insurance went up 20%. CT does not kid around I guess. PA, NY are wimps from what I hear. If that's assault then I got assualted at Wawa today. Some ***** dude got in my face and he was not small, maybe 6'5" and around 280 I'd say. I may have been able to take him but then again I don't think the odds were in my favor--usually a person who initiates a confrontation is looking for some fisticuffs, and it gives them an edge IMHO. I'm thinking this BS is over a gas pump so since I'm the one filling my tank right now and not him I told him look I got what I need so I'm set, why don't you take a hike. Finally he walked away.

update on the situation.. i dispatched an email to the piaa service department.

"i was wondering if the piaa extreme white bulbs the 194's are street legal

thanks
eric"

responce~
"Our 168 Xtreme White bulbs are not DOT approved, which makes them legal for street use. They do meet the color and brightness requirements for bulbs, but the bulbs themselves have never been tested for approval.

Thank you,
PIAA Service"

did they mean to write illegal for street use? im a little confused.

I was at this meet you were refering to. It would have gone down without a hitch (without the Danbury Police ever showing up at all), IF certain members had not decided to think with their penises and drive like idiots around the parking lot. This incident should not be considered as an example of law enforcement abuse of power.

...Yes, having clears is not street legal. They are ILLEGAL. That is in virtually every state. I am in TX and they are liberal with this stuff and it is still illegal. Most cops won't pull you over for it, but if they have pulled you over for speeding or no seat belt etc. they may add this to the list if they are in a bad mood or you disrespect them. Seeing as this guy was already a ***** for pulling you over for something this silly, you probably made him even more upset by 'offering to get out of the car' and show him. And yes that is the legal description of assault. Assault and Battery is the threat, and then the act of hitting someone combined. Assault is just the threat of violence. Trust me, you don't want to be charged with assaulting a police officer, that will follow you around on your record forever. I know all this not because I am a hooligan but because I took law classes in college. I have clears too and I take the chance.

The best bet you have is to write a letter to the judge stating that you didn't know they were street legal and you will 'return your car to stock' if he will dismiss the ticket.

...Stuff like that works most times unless the judge is a jerk or you have a record. Good luck.

You do realize the bulb could be perfectly legal at the same time that your markers as a whole are illegal, right? A white bulb under an amber cover/marker is legal because from the outside it looks amber. Put that same bulb in a clear marker and your marker now shines white which is illegal. PIAA could very well mean their bulb is bright enough to light up a coloured marker to spec. Not that the bulb is legal under a clear marker.

Need amber bulbs for the front and red bulbs for the back side markers in CA. I was tempted to get the polarg white bulbs but the regulation I read stated they were illegal.
