RoadKill: 98 Mustang GT 5-spd, modded

my friend has a 1998 GT Mustang 5-spd with ford racing headers, x-pipe and a k/n intake. also BASF Urchin(chromalusion equivalent to Dupont) saleen body kit and spoiler and hood. We were both going to the club on thursday and just met up by chance we stopped and chatted and decided we would take the highway and line it up. we raced twice and both times it was the same, we started at 60, i pulled a little to 85, banged off 4th pulled some more, kept pulling, banged off 5th and pulled another car then shut it down around 120-125. overall i'd say it was around 4-5 cars from 60-120 and i made sure i told EVERYONE at the club when we got there, he said he didn't expect to win, he knows my car is fast but wants to race from a stop and i said whenever you want. all in all a good kill i'd say, cus he's modded. if not i would be like whatever.

I am only a V6 Maxima. But I spanked one already!!!, I also lined up to a Acura TL and lucky I didnt smoke that a*zz, there was a cop right on the other side of the bridge. That was a close!!!

Very nice kill. Just imagine what it would be like, if you were as modded as him.

You need to carry a camera around with you. There's nothing better than to capture the look on their faces as you smoke 'em. The "deer in the headlights" look as if they are totaly suprised. I just think that alot of people still grossly under estimate the power and speed of our cars. A total lack of respect. And I use that to my advantage....because the right person behind a GT will run circles a round me. Catch them off guard, and they're eating dust.

What year GT are you referring to? would that be modded or unmodded.

I will admit that the 99 and newer GT will slaughter my 2k auto but I will also say that I have ran even/gotten the jump and beaten/lost only by a little to several 95-98 mustang GTs.

What Im trying to say is you dont need to resort to trickery to beat a GT.(unless its me trying to beat a 99+ )

95 - 99 Mustang GT's run low 15's stock.. with headers and all those mods he would be lucky to see mid 14's..

I think your referring to 96-98, and they ran high 14's stock with the wright driver. 95' was the last year of the 5.0 and 99' was the first year of the 260hp sohc v8.

One of the larger Ford dealerships in my area just picked up the Nissan franchise this past Friday. I stopped in on Saturday to check when they would be getting the bulk of their inventory and to tell them I'm interested in test driving a 6-speed when they get one.

The salesman I was talking to said that they had already raced an 2k2 GT mustang auto against an 2k2 maxima SE auto. He said the mustang would put 1.5 to 2 car lenghts on the max off the line but that was it. Then the maxima would start to catch up with the mustang past 80mph. He felt that if they had raced to 100mph that the max would have pulled even with the mustang. Not to shabby for a V-6 sedan!!!

I ran with a 97-98 GT (different tailights) last night on the highway. I think he was using fourth whereas I was using 3rd gear. We'd get some clear road, he'd downshift (might have been auto), I would double-clutch to 3rd and draft him 'til fourth when I'd pass him doin' ~115 to his ~110.
[rice disclaimer]I think he was just playin' around though 'cause I have a VG. [rice disclaimer]
We ran 3 times, started out each time from about 75 or so. Not much of a race, but fun. I'd get around him, wait, he'd blow by at about 90 or so, I'd be in 3rd WOT, but as soon as I got in his draft, he couldn't pull away. It was awesome. He tried to draft me some, but I wouldn't let him.

The 96-98 GTs were pretty freaking weak for a Mustang. Most of the 5 speed 96-98 GTs are stuck in the 15s with a few good drivers beating a 14.8-14.9 out of them. Their only real advantage over us in the fact that they have decent lowend torque and RWD therefore they can get a decent jump from 0-40mph. I've driven a 97 stock GT and a 98 GT with gears and catback and I was never terribly impressed. Power comes on pretty good from 2500rpms and then it's quickly over by 4800rpms. From a roll, these motors sound like they working really hard for very little in return. My Maxima feels completely linear and far more long legged from a roll. From a stop, the GT gets the advantage. The 99+ GTs on the otherhand are different animals.

A few nights ago I got into a tangle with a green Bullit. Two 20-something year-old guys were "goosing" it a little thru traffic. Being a musclecar guy at heart and also loving the Bullit, I sped up to get next to him just to hear the engine. We caught a light with a real long straight. As we took off from the light, I held 1st and so did he. He punched it and instantly I did too, but his initial jump and sheer torque advantage quickly put some distance on me from ~10mph-40mph. By 60mph when we shut down he had about 1 car on me. I went by and gave the thumbs up. He looked over with a confused look and got behind me as I got on the highway. He then crept up beside me and wanted to run again. This time we were going 60mph. I was in 3rd and his passenger motioned to go. This time it was completely neck and neck up to the top of 3rd where I shut down. This little 3.0 never ceases to amaze me sometimes.

All Bullit Stangs are 5 speeds. I did have an advantage over the guys racing me on the highway...I had my windows up and theirs were down. It does make a little difference.

The Bullit (green, blue, or black) is a GT without a wing, slightly lowered, the 17" anthracite 5 spokes, upgraded brakes, 5+hp (265hp), mufflers, alumninum gas cap, and some interior upgrades. It's really a sweet looking ride. I've raced a few auto 99 GTs and they are by far the quickest auto Stangs out of any year. I've seen quite a few lightly modded autos hit lower 14s with most in the mid to upper 14-second range.

to the best of my knowledge and i could be wrong.. the billit only came in green with the 17" anthracite rims that were the same as the green ford mustang that Frank Billit drove in an older Television Show..

Most of the Bullits you'll see are green simply because of the movie, but Ford did make the car in black and deep navy blue. I'd have a very hard time choosing between green or the blue. The Bullit is now all, but a memory. They've all been sold and no more will be built. Have you seen the Mach 1 yet? It has a "shaker" hood, black spoiler, black trim along the bottom, a spin off on another old school wheel design, and the Stang sports the 305hp 96-98 Cobra motor and live axle rear. It's a shame GM never cuaght on to this retro fun that Ford is having right now.

HOWEVER!!! The Stang I want is the 2004 Boss 302. Yep, they're building a 5.0 verison of the modular 4.6 (this motor will most likely power the 2005+). Look for about 350hp out of this motor. This will be last Stang built on this chassis. In the 2005, the new Stang comes out.
