does any1 kno anything about MAXIMAS????

97 maxima (not any specific type i don't think) bought it at an auction, i love the dam thing but when i'm drivin between 65-80 mph, the steering wheel really vibrates n it's annoying, so I :

-got all 4 brand new eagle hp's
-balaced n rotated
-got an alignment

n it still shakes, but usually when i go past 80 it eases up, what the hell is goin on????????

warped rotors, bent axle, coule be a plethora of problems.

I would put my money on a funky axle though..
pull the driver's side axle out, give it a 1/3 turn and stick it back in.
fixed vibrations on more than a few front wheel drive cars doing that.

this can be from an accident, or simply from replacing the CV boots. Mine first started when I got the car back after sending it to a shop to fix a tranny leak. bad axle seal. so I had thse vibes after that for over a year.. I replaced the entire suspension and brake system and bought 2 sets of wheels and 3 sets of tires trying to fix the problem. numerous alignments and tire rotation/balances never fixed it. I'd finally given up.
Then one day my CV boot blew while I was on vacation. I had a few hours of extra time, so I bought a new boot and pulled the axle out and rebuilt the joint.. when I got it back together and took it for a drive, the vibes were compeltely gone.

jane was the only one on this thread who i noticed had a 4th gen (i know ethan used to)............

my old car does this too (1996 SE). but its only between 70 and about 78 MPH. ive read a few posts on it and i think it just turned out to be a built in problem that 4th gens have/had (maybe it was corrected during the latter years of the 4th gen)

i dont know for sure but what i've gathered is that the shaking at about 70 MPH is pretty "normal" for 4th gens. not sure what causes it but i think a lot of people have the same exact problem.

if your alignment was done correctly then your control arm would not be bent. if a suspension component is bent the alignment tech would let u know because it won't be within spec.

is it possible that maybe your front tires were on backwards? if the tread is going in the wrong direction it can screw up your alignment you know

there are a bunch of things that will cause the steering wheel shimmy due to the numerous components in the front suspension and steering system. The most likely culprits: steering rack bushing or damaged tie-rod (or also called tension rod)

who knows.....
its 3:15 and i have to wake up in 2hours and 45mins. im getting my FSTB and clear corners tommarrow afterschool.

My steering wheel vibration also went away after I replaced my driveaxles as well. Both outer CV joints were leaking so it was time to replace them. My max had 99,000 miles at the time.
