i've been looking around for quite a while. no direct matches. can someone tell me if you happen to know where i can get just the muffler?

Not to sure but I dont think that either one sells a universal in those types. I know only Apex i sell universal Dunks and N1's and Greddy dosent sell universal exhaust. So I am told. Your best bet would be to buy a used one and chop off the exhaust (muffler) and custom it to fit your max.
I have a GReddy SP muffler FOR the maxima (97-99, will fit 95-96 but sticks out more). Email me if you are interested. I may be out of town this weekend. I'm in SoCal, unfortunately.
