How much do you pay for insurance on your Maxima?

Tried doing a search, but I came up with nothing. I was just wondering how much all of you are paying and what you do to keep or get your rates per year lower. We have tried doing Progressive and Fireman's Fund, but they are no less than 1300 per 6 months.

A local insurance company offered me $1100 6 month policy for my wife and I.

We are married and both are 25 and have had accidents (1 for me but I was not at fault, and 1 my wife and it was her fault) back in the later part of 1999. I drive a 1996 Maxima with 115,000 miles and she drives a 1996 Honda Accord with 52,000 miles. Does this sound like a gouging or what? I thought that being married, and having 4 door cars was a good thing? How in the world do I get the rates lower? Defensive driving classes for my wife and I???

Please let me know what you think. I am going crazy thinking of how much cash this is wasting.

hey jgadlage,

I pay about $1800 a year and that is with 1 accident, I was at fault, and 1 speeding ticket 86 in a 70.

I am 27 yrs old and single and have a 1997 se. I live in marietta.

To me $2200 a year for 2 cars and 2 drivers that does not seem that bad.

But I might be wrong, since I am not married and I have only insured my car

I pay about $2500 for 6 months. That is around $480/month. That is steep for me but actually pretty good considering I have an accident that I was not at fault and a couple of tickets. Oh, and by the way I have progressive!

I paid $ 1621 for a year..

...including 97 Max GXE, renter's insurance plus camera/personal property. The camera stuff is about US$ 140 per year..., and the renters' insurance is about US$ 50...so let's just say around $ 1450 for the car alone.

Having said that, I found it ridiculous since if I totaled my car, those guys will give only give me US$ 6000 (114k as of now), which is not really "much" to buy a new car.

Plus, it's not necessary to have insurance in Wisconsin, so... I was really thinking not to insure my car. Period. I would rather get a lawyer rather than much $$$ for insurance.

Before you guys start saying something that I am not supposed to be doing, I want to tell you a story. My friend has a brand new Acura RSX that was totalled due to an accident. He was not at fault, but guess what, the guy who hit him did not have insurance at all. The insurance company bought him a new car, but his insurance increases. The guy who hit him only got away with 4 points and minor damage to his truck.

Insurance

My wife and I have Allstate. I have a 99 SE and she has a 99 Civic LX. For both cars, with $100k/$300k insurance, we pay $1300/year. We live in CT and both have clean records (at least as far as Allstate is concerned). I've looked around, and I can't find anyone better than what I've got now.

Getting married did make a difference. Last year, before my wife joined my policy, I was paying $1100/year for just me. We put her car on, and upgraded the level from $20k/$40k to $100k/$300k and it only went up $200/year!

I pay $72/mo for pretty basic coverage (but I do have a $500 comp deduct) in Austin. I think that's like $450 for 6 months. I'm 28 and have 1 ticket on my record. 97 SE 5speed. Just switched to Geico from Allstate. AS was starting to gouge me...my rate increased from ~$75 to $95 in 2 years.

my yearly was 3400 when i lived in new jersey but since registering the car in florida it dropped to 1800 and is now back up to 2200 because i added all my expensive mods (stereo, wheels, interior) to my insurance.

Everyone should get a beater. Adding a beater actually lowered my insurance rate. I put down the beater as the daily commuter and the maxima as pleasure driven. 2 cars togther only came out to be $550 for 6 months.

Dude, me too, I'm 33, married, state farm insurance is ~$700/year for my max and ~$650/year for 95 integra. so $1350/year both, full coverage. If I do have a wreck and it is my fault they'll just remove the 10% accident free discount for the next 3 years. Gotta love state farm. Basically though, it is 25% cheaper once you hit 25 years old than if you are single and < 25. Then another 25% cheaper if you are married. OR once you're married it is half what it a single person would pay. SO, get married and your insurance should cut in half.

For any future posters:

Please include your age, and accidents/tickets. Most of you have done that, which makes a TON of difference.

Me: 23, no accidents/tickets, on multiple policy w/parents, $700 for 6 months for my 99 SE. Allstate.

Parents: 50-ish, no accidents/tickets, Lexus LS400 and Honda Accord, ~$300 each for 6 months. Allstate (I'm on their policy)

I can't WAIT till I'm 25 and can stop sending my parents these ridiculous checks every 6 months.

For those that aren't on their parents' policy, I would recommend doing it as you save an extra 10% to 15% for having multiple cars. Write a check out to your parents or have them make a check out to you - worth the $100-$300 if you ask me.
