even our lil bro or sis...wateva u want to call them..
Personally I think the new altimas look a tad better than 5th-gen max's, although I'm not big on the stock tails. Why must every new car these days have altezza-ish stock tails?

The Maxima will be bigger again. The thing is the altima will always stay below the Maxima, no matter what! The Maxima is and has been Nissan's flagship for a long time. The Maxima is alot better when it comes to quality, the altima is still cheesy. My 92 has a better interior than the 2k2 altima. I dont have beef with the altima boys, I respect them, and I know they respect the Max. In fact, we have meets Max/Altima meets in SoCal.

altima = training car for future maxima drivers.
new altima is pretty fast, but its only so that nissan keeps the maxima somewhat "rare". this way it will keep the wow factor, something honda lost a while ago and toyota never had.
hehe

I dont know what you guys are so upset over. When the 04 max comes out it will be way out of most of our price ranges. The new Altima has been redesigned with a more appealing exterior and a very powerful 3.5 V6 (which we all know is in the 02 max) so it can replace the max on the field of a very fast AFFORDABLE family sedan. Personaly i love the max but i am disappointed with Nissans idea of changing the category in which it belongs. At least Nissan is replacing the area where the Maxima once dominated-a decent car that should still be able hold the honors in the fast, affordable family sedan category.

There will always be a rivalries:
Maxima vs. TL-S
Maxima vs. CL-S
Maxima vs. Altima
Maxima vs. M3
4Th Gen vs. 5th Gen
Auto vs. Manual
And so on.........

I have owned 4 maximas in the past. A 3rd gen, two 4th gens and a 5th gen.I recently traded my 2k se for a 3.5 se altima. I have been extremely pleased with the car, no problems with the brake rotors warping, coil packs, or transmission, sunroof like my 2k maxima had. Granted the interior is not quite as plush as the max, but the exterior wins hands down. The altima 3.5 is taking the place of the current maxima, and nissan has killed two birds with one car platform. The new maxima will be larger, more costly, and probably not as fun to drive and produced in smaller numbers. Will many current maxima owners shell out the 33-40k for a max, this is approaching the lexus, bmw, infiniti range? And not to mention the poor levels of service that many nissan owners report. Every year carmakers refine and create better automobiles and this current cycle has placed 2 cars made by the same manufacturer extremely close in price, performance and size.
All I can say is JEALOUSY!

I love my '97 max, but I had a '97 Altima and my sister has a '97 Altima and they both never had 1 problem. My sister's has 130,000 miles and not even an o2 sensor or anything. She changes the oil every 10-12,000 miles and it runs like new. My max is reliable, but not as reliable as those Altimas. Maybe coincidence? I don't know.
