I washed my Super Black over the weekend, and...

...all I gotta say is...

daaaaaaaaaayyyyuuuummm !!!!

I hadn't washed it in like 2 months before that. It was dirty as hell and looked like shia, and there was brake dust and grime all over the wheels. It looks freakin awesome now! And the bonus is that this wind whistle that I had before above 80 all the time is gone now. I guess it was some piece of bird shia that I finally washed off. LOL!

I had to go out to my car just now to get something and I saw how shiny it was with the trees and everything around it reflecting and I was in awe. And then this lady that was walking into the building caught me checking out my car and gave me the look.

I gotta start washing this thing more often. How often do you guys wash your black Max's?

I try to wash mine every weekend, and wax it once a month or so. That doesn't always happen though.

This weekend I washed, clay bar-ed, washed, waxed. The car looked amazing for about an hour before it rained.

Oh well...'twas good for the finish.

I try to wash it myself but as hot as it gets here now, I just drive through a Mercedes dealer car wash but If I wash it, its only clean water that never leaves any marks or lines on super black. No shampoo period.

I wash my car at least weekly. More often if it's necessary to keep it spotless.

I can't stand driving a dirty car. It's got to be spotless or I'm not happy. I wipe my wheels down just about every day. Can't stand brake dust.

SteVTEC - man, we gotta get you out there with the bucket & mitt more often than 6 times a year

Heh...even with my beige, I wash on average once every 6-7 days, and try to pre-wax/wax once in the spring, summer, and late fall. That puts me behind most of the guys on here, even though most of my friends (none of 'em are really car buffs, unfortunately) think I'm insane with all the time I spend cleaning. My washes usually take an hour with all the little detailing nuances.

I had a black car once. Never again, unless I hit the lottery and can buy a trained team of monkeys to constantly detail it. And even then, you have to factor in the possibility of the monkeys revolting.

Weekly unless it's going to rain on Sunday! (Superblack is such a high maintenance color.) But when it's clean, wow it's sweet.

Is your nose mask for a 95 to 96 it doenst seem to fit like mine does for the 97? I wash mine twice a month but inbetween use the California Car duster everyday and it keeps it spotless.

haha, for a while it was every day, but now that i'm working full time only can manage like twice a week. I'm obsessive about having a clean car, my friends and family all think i'm nuts.
I live here http://www.autopia-carport.com/forums
Man I get a real kick out of detailing my car! I probably have about 200 dollars worth of detailing eq by now, and about to spring some more for an orbital polisher.

BTW everyone should try Klasse!

LOL! Didn't know Dave B was so obsessed!

BTW, last year, after having the car for a while, I started reading about car care from enthusiasts. Boy did I go crazy. I used to wash my car every week, steam-clean every week for 4 weeks (had bad stains), wipe down the engine bay every week along with a weekly waxing of the exterior and wheels, a monthly 3-step cleaner/polish/wax process.

Now, I have a new baby, my 5-speed Ruby Pearl. It's deep enough of a color to be considered a dark car. I bought $100 worth of car care products from tacscar.com: Klasse and One Grand Blitz Wax & detailer, and of course, microfiber towels. Well, I spent at least 20 hours in the course of 2 days just polishing and waxing (the exterior was a bit neglected). Anyway, I applied 3 coats of Klasse All-In-One and then proceeded with a single coat of Klasse Glaze. Let that cure overnight, then applied 3 more coats of Glaze, then one coat of Blitz. Did my arm fall off? nope. Will I ever do that again? NOPE.

P.S. Sorry I got caught up in my stories.

Hello, just wanted to update people that I AM doing it again. I just joined the Autopia forums a few days ago and I've caught the "detailing bug."

I'll post pics once I'm done...I'll just say though, I'm going all out, full detail.

I compounded my car for the first time and the electric buffer didn't get all the compound off.I had to do alot of spots by hand.
Question? Do you wash the car after compounding to get the excess off?
I waxed the car right after compunding it,is that bad?

my maxima is black also... and 2 weeks ago i went to ziebarts and had the diamond gloss service done on my paint. now my car looks waxed 24/7. all i have to do is pull it through the touchless carwash and go for a 10 minute drive and its about as shiny as 2 hours of hand waxing. it is unbelievable. also, for me the most important part... NO SWIRL MARKS WHATSOEVER!! even if i let water dry up on the car! ON A BLACK CAR!!

heh, i'm planning on going in another few weeks and having another layer of the diamond gloss. after the second (or maybe third) layer, im going to start using the klasse stuff i bought. it's collecting dust!

I hadn't really thought doing it before, (because I like to wash & wax my Maxima by hand whenever the weather's decent and I have a few spare hours) but my wife booked me a "Gold" detailing service at the local Nissan dealership for my birthday.

They use only 3M professional products and clean:
- the interior - including carpeting and seats - they do a great job on leather.
- the engine bay - mine looks almost like new!
- and wax your paintwork like it's never been cleaned and waxed before. I seriously doubt that a clay bar could do as nice a job. The paint looks and feels like it's been oiled! All the bumper "grunge", swirl marks and scuff marks are gone.

The only downside (IMHO) is that they also "shine" (Armor-all, I think) sidewalls of your tires.

My boss drives a black Jag XJR and paid $350(CDN) plus tax at Ziebart for their "Diamond Gloss" package last week. He thinks they did a better job on my white Maxima at the Nissan dealsership for only $200(CDN) - including tax.

there is nothing like a good ol' fashioned wax job. but, how long will it last? depends, right?

the diamond gloss is warrantied and it will last for a good while. in my case even longer because i plan on putting even more layers of polish on it.

What do you mean a clay bar could do as nice a job? There is no substitute for claying your car. Claying and polishing is all the prep work before you actually put protection/shine onto your car. Wax is just extra gloss, and a temporary shell on top of your paint and/or polish/glaze.

Congrats on the bday present...but you should know that your own handiwork will always yeild the best results. Visit autopia-carport.com/forums for more info.

...of course, I prefer to do my own handiwork, but the detailing process (at least at this Nissan dealership) involves a number of steps.
1) wash the car and strip away any old wax.
2) polish with a compound equivalent to 2000grit.
3) wash the car again with water only.
4) polish with a compound equivalent to 5000grit.
5) wash the car again with water only.
6) polish with a compound equivalent to 8000grit.
7) wash the car again with water only and dry completely.

...all of the above is done before waxing and makes use of 3M Professional products exclusively.
