The upcoming "Redline" movie with the Maxima...
#1
So get this. Craig Leiberman, the owner of the blue Maxima that's in the movie writes me this. the catch? He wants me to pay HIM to advertise on MY site. Hmm.....
well... tell me what you think.. and besure to read the last paragraph carefully.
if he wants to promote it: great by all means, but sheit. don't ask me to pay for it.
------------------
What would you say if I told you that a hopped up Maxima was one on the main
cars in an upcoming movie about the import car scene? Originally called
"Redline", this movie, due for release this March, is now titled "The Fast and
The Furious."
As Technical Advisor for the movie (and owner of this particular Maxima), I am
currently helping Universal Pictures promote the motion picture prior to its
release in theaters this Spring.
The car in question is Viper Blue, supercharged, reverse mount/louvered hood and
was featured on your site not so long ago. The car is a number of scenes,
including a fight scene and in one scene, performs a nice smoky burnout for half
a block. The car has a very unique (albeit controversial) graphic on the sides
and the movie features only import cars with numerous chases, crashes and race
scenes.
Want to know more? I can guest author articles for your site and provide photos
for a nominal fee. Please let me know if you have an interest.

Thats cool that he wrote you,
but I dont no why on earth you would want to pay him to advertise on your site, last I checked it works the other way around,so if you do not gain anything from this guy advertising on your site what is the point?
#5
WTF...
And just what exactly do you have to gain by putting promotions of that movie on your site?!
Whata bunch of crap.
I agree-he should pay you to place advertisements on your site. He oughta feel priveliged to have ads on MaximaDriver

He probably doesn't have a real job. I guess being the director of NIRA doesn't pay much =) I mean NIRA is small potato compare to the NHRA. I could be wrong, but who knows. Anyway, I think he wants a freelance opportunity to write for your site about the movie. He just want to milk as much as he can for the damn movie. I wouldn't be surprise if he sells the Supra and the Maxima after the movie's relase.

I don't know what that guy is smoking, but he should be
paying you to advertise on your site. I mean it's great
that a Maxima is in this movie, but I wouldn't pay him
anything. What do you have to gain by having his promo
on your site??

Uhm.. Think about it..
This IS worth money if you know what you are doing.
What you aren't thinking about is the attention that this could possibly bring to your website. Assuming you took advantage of it and promoted it properly.
It's not about -you- advertising for -him-
It's more like -him- providing -you- with exclusive interviews/articles/content for your website which -you- can then promote and get -a lot- of hits etc etc..
Although I'm not sure how famous the dude is or how many hits it would bring, but you get my point right?
Now if he just wanted you to run some banner ads for him then it would be a different story, but that's not the case. He wants to provide you with some good content that can help bring in a lot of hits and possibly sponsors etc etc..
It's worth looking into. If he is reasonable.

Rediculous
Forget him, hes smokin rock.
Remember that girl on the wall that i pointed to? Shes one of the girlfriends of the main guy in the movie.
Besides that, its not going to be a huge movie, and i wonder if he even has rights to leak about the movie.. cuz if so, she probably has rights to do the same.
You wanna pay me to let u work on my car? Itll promote you... pfffffft.

I don't think it's quite advertising, he didn't state that he wanted you to pay him to promote the movie. It's not like he wants to put a banner up on your site and make you pay for it. More like what got rice? does for Overboost. Doesn't he take pics at shows and do writeups for them? Same thing. He is providing you with content for your webpage, not just a promo for the movie. Kind of like magazines buying articles from freelance writers.

i basically told him off,
he wrote back,
"Very sorry...didn't know I was dealing with rank amateurs and unprofessional individuals. Clearly you are destined for greatness in this industry."
this is what i said back:
"
Well, i for one am not bent on promoting what looks be to a wonderful B movie.
So what if there's a maxima in it, clearly, it does not represent the image that we in the Maxima Community wish to promote. If you de-riced your car to a point where it looks like a decent car, then maybe i'd be interested.
You sir, are the unprofessional one. you sir have everything to lose. Yeah. i'm realllly sure you'll be winning the big trophies now that you're in a movie.
Try a 'real' motorsport, like track racing or auto cross, not some high-school kid infested "import show off" car show scene.
Grow up. "
heh.
so. um.. about that bridge? how tall is it?
and what color ?

No offense, but don't you think you may have overreacted a little bit? I mean the guy was trying to promote a movie he's a part of and his original email seemed polite and professional and merely made a request. I don't see any reason to tell him off, a simple not interested would have worked. He apparently thought highly enough of your site to try and approach you about it. And what makes the car so ricey? It's not pretty, but taste is subjective. Aren't you the one with a salad bar touring wing? Plus his car is probably faster than yours. Finally, why so harsh on the show scene? Different strokes for different folks. You like racing, he likes show, simple as that. It's not like he's forcing you to watch the movie or buy his articles.
#28
Hmm..
Isn't Craig Lieberman a well respected dude, with good reputation? Are you sure you want to diss him off like that? I don't know the whole story but sounds like he meant it with good intent??. I'm still on your side Cheston, no flames.
#29
i told him:
1)if he wants to write articles for me. great. i'm not going to pay him.
2) i can make banenrs for the movie. then great. pay me advertising.
he writes me back that ****. then i just let him have it.
remember. he came to me.

If that's what you said, then he had no justification to come back at you like that. You originally said you told him off and I thought that meant you were rude to him after he approached you. But if he reacted like that, then yeah, I can see why you're pissed.

In defense of Chebosto, isnt that site his anyways? He can do what he wants to do. If he doesnt want anything to do with that so be it. It is certainly not our decision to harrass nor pass judgement on because ultimately, he runs the site(you know maximadriver.com)

i dunno if anyone talked about this but i figured it'd be interesting....at etown...one of the officials (i forget his name) owns a badass supra thats in the movie...used to be yellow but in the movie its orange with the "controversial" grapics on it...he had pics of the cars in the movie and the prototype double of his car...pretty sweet...they make and exact replica of the cars and those are the ones destroyed or whatever....
hes kinda upset about the graphics (funny the dude mentioned it)....they put dumb graphics on all the cars and repainted many of them crazy colors because they wanted to follow the trends in the import industry...hence the reason why his is orange now....
i just thought id share all that since it was interesting and cool to see pics of the rides in the movie...
BTW chebosto...i wouldn't pay him a cent...he should be paying you...

It's interesting.
He's got it bass-ackwards though. Maxima.org and other related sites are still working at a very small scale, fan-based level. Paying for articles and pics isn't something we are interested in because we're simply not there yet-- making new parts and running track events talks; the riceboy side that is such a strong presence in the mainstream import enthusiasts' side is not there yet, and NOR IS THE MONEY!
Shoot... I was there at Maxima Day with Cheston and the rest of the SoCal guys. The NIRA Maxima has got the usual go-fast mods + SC, but everything else is all show... zzzzzzz....

Plus, WHAT THE HELL!! Does he think Maxima owners are desperate? I can see his point if it was a major movie. But it isn't. I would never see a movie just because a Maxima is in it. Why waste your money to see someone else's car. I would think that you would watch a movie for the movie, not the car, right?
I am making a home movie with my Maxima in it and you can pay me a dollar for a copy.
I bought my Maxima because I wanted something different. I wanted a car that I wanted, not what the current trend was with Hondas. This guy wants to promote his movie on MaximaDriver.com to hopefully get more people to go to the site plus watch his movie. I don't want Maximas to turn into the mainstream Honda crowd. I hate them. I like the idea of keeping the cars as the best kept secret. They are great cars and should be bought because of their greatness, not because of copycats who want what everyone else has. I always thought Maximas were of the "upper class" of people. Above the rice honda. Maxima should be in a mainstream movie!!
Maxima should not even be in this movie! To me Maxima is not really part of the import scene. We don't do crazy paint jobs, 1000 stickers, and so on.
Nothing is better for me than to destroy a punk 16 year old with his riced out honda, in orange paint, thousands of stickers, lowered all the way to the ground, huge gun rack spoiler, stupid over done body kits, while he is revving me to show off to his girlfriend! i don't get why the Rice image automatically means you get this badass attitude that they are untouchable!
I probably don't make any sense to you guys, but oh well. It was great venting.
I am here to destroy the Rice Import Scene!! Anyone want to join?

New REply from Mr Leiberman:
---------------
FYI:
I have two driving credentials under my belt: Skip Barber competition license
and an NHRA Comp License....how many do you have? I've raced everything from
Formula Fords to 600hp Mustangs. I've raced at Willow, Laguna Seca, Sears
Point, Firebird, and others. See? I'm a racer, just as you suggested I should
be.
I show my cars in this scene in an effort to show fans of NIRA, of which I'm the
Director, that I too am an enthusiast. Its not my preferred outlet, but since
few racing venues exist, I think we can agree that its easier to get to a show
than to a track.
Like you, I agree racing is far more fun than showing....but you have to
understand my purpose. I too enjoy Maximas...my Supercharged automatic serves
me fine as a pseudo-show car and daily commuter. I have other cars to play with
(see attached.)
I took great amusement in your comments about racing....with a Maxima? Are you
stoned? These cars are not exactly barn-burners, you have to admit. As
Marketing Director for Eibach, I quickly recognized the shortcomings of this
car, even with Eibach's on it. Lower is NOT better, and if you think it is,
you're clearly stoned.
Jeez....what's the deal with you guys? I simply thought it might be fun to talk
about some great action footage a la Maxima style in the movie.
So, in future may I suggest you get the facts as to whom you're dealing with
prior to spouting off...my advice? Stay in school.
----------
so i basically repled to him
1) I never said the maxima was the best track car. of course its not as nimble as an MR2 or Type R, but for a 4 door V6 the car moves.
2) I never said lower was better. Just that Maybe he should get Cattman Coilovers like other show maximas, and that he had clowned on a few other highly-modified show maximas (that were NSX blue.. hint hint) for having GCs when they did not,
3) i have eibachs, and they're decent on the track and ooooh Mr. Director, that's wonderful great to see that
4) that yes i am in school and pursuing my Electrical Engineering degree and not trying to impress teenagers with my car all the time.
5) to blow a few choice animals.
yeah. i let him get to me. but i still offered him to post articles on my site for free. but i guess he's a pultizer prize winner and he can't write about cars on my site or something.
