Speeding

Do you guys get excited when you see a 65 mph posted limit?? I do I get ecstatic if I see a 70 I think I've only comes across 70 mph limits like 10 times TOTAL.

Most of the roads I travel on are 55

Me and my Maxima have got to get to Montana, or anywhere out west where the roads are long and you can cruise at speed!

We used to have 70 where everyone drove 80 (10 over seems to be a very common and *almost* accepted speed here, even the police won't stop you). But with the speeds lowered to 55 oh yes, i do get ecstatic when i see anything above that!

come to Massachusetts

there is a posted speed suggestion, but if you're doing less than 80 in the middle or left lane you get passed on the right with a one-finger salute.

and, one major highway they opened up the breakdown lane to rush hour traffic... less than 85 there and you'll get high-beamed to get out of the way.

anyone from the area who's driven Mass Pike, 93, 495 or 128/95 knows what I'm talking about.

HAHAHAHAHAHAA! Mostly true, but only on the highways and inner city, but speed is never a consideration here, its only about aggressive driving and ****ing off the guy next to you
I don't support it, but I only do it to avoid the major potholes.

Oh, and I dont suggest you go speeding in some towns like avon and waltham...those cops are firiggin tight wads and take you down at 10mph over limit...but the loophole is that 9mph is still ok! heh heh

Careful speeding on the Mass Pike. I got a ticket for going 77 in a 65 zone once.

You guys drive fast

I drive my ranger between 55-64mph normally. You guys should try driving 55-60mph instead of going over 70mph to see what affect on gas mileage it has.

in ny - if you are within 10 MPH you are safe. but anything over 65MPH(which is already illegal) and you are going down

I was used to living in Oklahoma because of the higher speed limits, 70 & 75 are common there. Since I moved to Chicago is different. The speed limit is 55 but everyone drives 90!! People drive faster in Chicago with a lower speed limit. I had no idea what rush hour traffic was till I moved to a big city. It took me a few weeks to get used to bumper to bumper traffic while driving 80 mph. I am sure I ****ed off some other drivers with my laid back southern style, now I am impatient like everyone else. Seems odd, I have never gotten a ticket while living in Chicago and driving 20+ over the limit to stay with the flow of traffic. I got plenty of pidly 11+ over tickets while in Oklahoma.

I have a theory...
The closer in you get into the city, cops give more parking tickets than speeding tickets.
The farther outside of the city, cops give less parking tickets and get more tight on speeding.

Dunno why, but thats my observation.

I remember one night i was doin 90+ and i past by two cops and they didnt do anything. The limit is 100 kmh (about 60 mph) but i love that highway, its like a north american autobahn lol.

You're right... I was doing 90mph & I was slow & pooping in my shorts! (afraid of the "mounties" I was) But that's when I was driving my Blazer. I'm not afraid of anything in the Max... not even the Jersey Highway Patrol!

North American Autobahn, yeah but... with hellish North American traffic! I mean one minute you're doing 90... the next everything comes to a complete stop! WTF? Gotta love Toronto, though! What a freakin party-crazed city!

Yeah, I've driven all over on business and the only place where driving skill and agressiveness are optimal is NYC--only annoyance is that people are not afraid to use their horns. Boston is a really bad devil-may-care style of driving and too many of those gestures. People seem very bold too and drive along the breakdown lanes if it suits them. All-in-all I don't prefer MA, not sure what one gets for that high cost of living.

Philly seems to be very laid back, if a person is agressive he can usually pass everyone and cut-in at the last second and the person will let them--don't try that in NYC! Too many people were forcing their way in the extreme right lane which became a merge left that I put half my car in that line to prevent them from continuing to do that. It's all about flow and Philly and S Jersey doesn't have that.

I think IMHO NY has 2 things going for the driving there--1 would be the reeducation/defensive driving every 3 years and 2 there is police enforcement of violations.

I'm traveling on 495 today to head to the cape... should be fun doing 110 in an Integra... lol.

I think eastern MA drivers and western MA drivers are diff. Here in the west, everyone drives sooooooooooooooo slow. 10 mph and your considered a freggin maniac. - M

55-64

dang I think the car would cut off if i go below 60mph....I just have it in my head that the delicate VQ engine cant handle the slower speeds.......

i told that line to a cop recently when i was at work.....he thought it was funny...but he's been looking for me

he better watch out....i'll cancel his library card

That's right!!!! Staties pick people out all the time on the MA Pike and with undercover, unmarked vehicles. I saw someone get pulled over by a LS400 one day.

Speed Limit In The Southwest

I live in Southern California and the posted limit is 65mph, but the norm is closer to 80mph in the left lane.

I drive to Tucson Arizona a couple of times a year and once you get out of town, the speed limit is 75mph most of the way there. So 9mph above the speed limit is 84mph!!! but it seems that 85mph to 90mph is the norm that most cars drive at on the roads to Tucson, which is the speed at which the max likes to cruise.

In a nutshell, certain tollways in Chicago are like the German Autobahn. The worst of these is the Northwest Tollway (I-90). The speed limit may say 55, but you could swear you are doing 90+ to keep up with traffic.

Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94), I-57: Don't even think about doing less than 65 mph down there unless you want to get the Boston/NY treatment.

Chicago Skyway (I-90): They are running between 75-80 mph.

Tri-State Tollway (I-294), East West Tollway (I-88), North South Tollway (I-355), Stevenson Expressway (I-55): See Chicago Skyway. The big difference is that you are prone to see more GTPs, Z28s and Mustang GTs (State Police) on those expressways.

I-80: 75 is the norm.

Right on, me and my friends make the drive from San Diego to Tucson (we're all college students at UA) in under 5 hours.

I-91 in CT...I think people think the name is the speed limit...if I'm doing 80, I get tailed and/or passed a lot.

Years ago I was driving my 93SE south on 91.. it was a miserable day, with rain spitting and light fog, but still daylight. I was flying, maybe 85mph (tires were new ) and traffic was very light.

Anyway, these two clowns in old domestic cars come up even faster and both pass me on the right, using all three lanes. I was surprised these chit boxes were still hanging onto the wet road.

As they sped past me, they side-slapped into each other.. passenger door to driver's door.. at g85+mph.. and just kept on going. I couldn't believe my eyes, nor the fact that they didn't even stop. It didn't look like they were together either.
