Do the police ever play around with you?

I have had it happen three times.
#1) State cop that rode my *** on a 45mph zone semi-highway so I speed up slowly but he still was one my *** and when we where doing about 65mph in the 45mph he turned on his lights and past me

#2) I Pass a local cop on Rt 1 and about 1 mile down the road a car came up on me really quick and I notice by the headlights that its the local cop but he turned off his top bar lights so I would not know I go to get on the highway and to my suprise he followed me onto the on-ramp. with him on my *** on the on ramp I just go WOT up the ramp through 2nd and 3rd intill a little over 80mph. I took him by a few car lengths he got right next to me and gave me a dirty look so just hit the brakes and set the cruise at 70 and he turned around at the next town

#3)I was waiting at a light on a 2 lane Road and a local cop pulls up in the next lane. we both had a car in front of us. the light turns green and i go WOT for a second because of a car infront of me, He also did the same. He kept slowing down and flooring it up to the *** of the front car. I was being a wise *** and did the same because the 2 front cars were staying even doing the speed limit. I just was making it clear that I'm faster

I have almost punched a local cop because he was giving a BS stop light ticket. MaximaRacer28 was there. I was calling him a big A$$hole and Mr toughguy. I do not have a good local cop relationship and I won't go into my long list of tickets
Sidenote: I took that BS stoplight ticket to court and won and I also like state cops just not the locals

I've actually had a cop race me once. On the NJ turnpike, an unmarked chevy impala was up my @ss so i gunned it, not knowing it was a cop, and he followed close behind, and eventually we were weaving in and out of traffic goign 90 in a 65. After about 7-10 minutes, he turns on his sirens, pulls me over, and calls me an idiot and speeds away without so much as a warning. i was just happy that i didn't get a ticket

theyr'e not supposed to

They're not supposed to have jurisdiction (isn't that a Matrix line? "jur-is-my-****-tion crap") but that doesn't stop them from giving tickets that hold up in court. All he has to say is he followed him from an access road onto the highway.

Most agencies have agreements with other agencies concerning jurisdictions. That way, if you are going 90 in a 45 past a middle school, the local cop can legally pull you, even if it is outside his jurisdiction.

I once had a unmarked Crown Vic tailgate me. I looked back and saw it was a guy in a suit. No blue lights, no radar. I kept gradually speeding up. At about 115, he lost his ***** and backed off. Probably one of those idiots who couldn't make it into law enforcement and bought a police car as a consolation prize.

I'm pretty sure if the hiway runs through town, they can, but they tend not to **** in other people's pots, ie state or county.
I won't try running from a local this way, then you could end up with double trouble, local and state PD on your a$$.

I was on a 55mph stretch of interstate here that turns into a 60mph shortly thereafter. A cop was in the right lane going about 52-54mph. I passed him silently and made sure I stayed under 60 at least....and the guy pulls me over.

He gave me a warning and said "You know, it's not a good idea to pass a cop no matter what speed you're going". I rolled my eyes at him and took off. I guess that means cops determine the speed limit, not federal regulations.

I had two sheriff cars pull me over in my 91 Integra. They threatened me with 52 in a 35, careless driving, and failure to use a turn signal (caught me coming up over a slight hill racing a civic). Then the one sheriff came back and told me "You know...this is a beautiful car you got here...just try to take it easy on the gas".
I wonder if they'd do that for the Maxima

I raced a cop about 2 years ago in my 87 cavalier z24. I had just started driving (maybe 2 weeks), so you can imagine the abuse I was putting my car through. Well, this guy pulled up next to me at a red light and started looking at me. I looked at him. We both gunned it on the green light, and were dead even until the next light. We didnt hit over 60mph, but still. Next light, same thing. Except, this time I floor it, but he doesn't, rather gets behind me and puts his siren on. He pulled me over in the middle of the street in a turning lane, and walked over to me. He asked me for my drivers license, etc. Looked at my car, saw the expired temporary inspection sticker. He then told me, I was driving recklessly, speeding, and had no inspection on my car. I had 2 friends with me, and all they could say wasy oh sh.., anyway, he got back in his car and left. Every since then I dont race Impala's or Crown Victorias. Sure did give me an adrenaline rush!

No, the z24 was 2.8 V6 - 130 hp, 170 lbs tq. It had a 3spd auto. The car was pretty light, I can't remember the weight though. That thing had neck snapping accelleration up to 50mph, after that it crawled. Did you see that video theblue had racing a camaro on the track? Well thats exactly how the cavalier ran, jumped ahead off the line, but had no top end. Too bad I junked the car b4 i even had a chance to put the cam that i have in the garage into it.

Cool beans. I new guy who was making a sleeper out of his new Z24. Engine build up, NOS, possible boost. He was smart about it. The outside of the car looked normal.

my friend's son

got a ticket for speeding on the highway. He was speeding up to get out of the way of a car coming up *fast* behind him in the left lane. He sped up to almost 80 to get out of the way and the car turned out to be a cop... ticketed for 80 in a 55.

Not too long ago a state trooper was tailgating him on the highway so he called 911 on his cell and reported it. My friend's first question... "you didn't tell the 911 operator your name, did you?"

I wonder what happened to that trooper? (I bet probably nothing)

In most (if not all) states, police officers must go through a state sanctioned academy, and are "state certified" police officers. That certification qualifies them to work for any law enforcement agency state level and below. It also gives them police powers ANYWHERE in that state. Sure, it is true that as a general rule, agencies stay out of each others way. However, a police officer does have legal jurisdiction and authority anywhere in that state.....with the sorry exception of Indian reservations, but that is another story.

Don't ever think that a city a car on a freeway or a state highway (even outside of city limits) won't pull you over. I happen to have personal, first hand experience otherwise!

He gave me a warning and said "You know, it's not a good idea to pass a cop no matter what speed you're going". I rolled my eyes at him and took off. I guess that means cops determine the speed limit, not federal regulations.
Well, they actually do. Technically, most statutes cite that the speed limit is what is deemed "reasonable and prudent." Yup, that means that if a police officer judges your speed to be above what is reasonable and prudent, especially in traffic or under adverse weather conditions, you can be cited.

Also, federal regulations do not, and never have determined speed limits, states do. The feds do say what they feel max limits should be on interstate freeways, but ultimately it is a state issue. Currently the feds have said the cap they would like to see is 75 mph. If a state choses to have a limit above that, then it loses federal highway finding. Sure, it is coersion, but effective. That is why we saw Montana with no limit on the freeways, but only for a while! (Police officers could still write tickets, based on they felt was reasonable and prudent speed!! )
In Idaho, the interstate limit is 75, in Illinois, it is a frustratingly slow 65. At least it is no longer 55 nationwide like it used to be!

As for the ego thing, ya, it is a little frustrating for many. Those cops with huge egos also come accross that way to their coworkers and aren't terribly well liked.

Technically or in reality? I've read that yes, a state can set any speed limit they chose. BUT if a state choses a speed limit over the federal recommended limit, the feds can chose to NOT allow that state Federal funds to for highway improvement etc...So it's how you look at it I guess

Uh, I think that that is EXACTLY what I just said.

I got my 1st ticket ever, just showing my friend what my car could do. He told me to take a short cut where there arent usually cops, so i turn and gun it, well im doing about 53 in a 30 in 3rd gear when my radar detect. goes nutty and i see a cop walk out from behind a bush with the radar gun pointing to the side of the road. Nice little 200 buck ticket there. I said id never speed again but i do from time to time.

About a year ago I was cruising down a local highway on my way to work. I see a black Mustang come flying up on my butt. I thought okay this guy wants some . So, I put it in third gear and stomp on the gas. After a few seconds I look back up in my rear view mirror and see police lights flashing from his windshield. I knew I was in for it. I let off the gas and proceeded to pull over. The cop took my license and insurance etc. He told me he had just called for back up thinking I was going to try and out run him (just as 2 highway patrol cars pull in behind him). He said he wasn't to worried though because the Mustang was one of his cop buddies cars and he was borrowing it for the week. He said it had the supercharger and he knew I wasn't getting away. I just thought it was some Mustang wanting to play and ended I up getting a ticket for 75 in a 60 (the speed I was going BEFORE I decided to floor it with him behind me). I was at about 90 with him right behind me!

That's because here in WA State, ever since WTO, the cops have full jurisdiction, local, county, and state, as long as they are within state lines.

It sucks, because now an Everett Cop can tail you all the way to Tacoma if he wants to and give you a ticket for something stupid.

They even took out the law that said you can't follow anyone for more than 10 miles.

Yep, Govenor Locke has screwed us yet again!

Isn't it funny that the more liberal a state is, the more fascists it's laws?

Like here in WA, you have to buy liquor only at State run liquor stores, there's a teen dance ordinance, cops have no jurisdiction lines, etc, etc.

But in hardcore Republican states like AZ, you can buy a plastic gallon of Safeway Select vodka, and carry a gun without a permit, as long as it's visible.

And yet the average joe still thinks that the Republicans are the fascists.

Not that I don't hate some things from any political party, the Democrats have me especially ticked off lately.

Thanks for letting me rant,
IanS

This is VERY wrong. Cops have jurisdiction in their whole state. They can and will pull you over ANYWHERE.
