A friend of mine got into a scuffle with a carjacker one night and used his maglite to defend off the carjacker. He beat the livin' crap out of him and wound up in the hospital.

He told me about this mod a few year ago when I had my 2000 SE and I will do this mod to all of my rides in the future.

I used to have the charger for my rechargable maglite mounted down there.

Just FYI, the rechargable one is the brightest...by far.

Hm...interesting. I have an Autolock device in my car to secure the car with. I could use that to defend myself if I need to, but that thing is kind of big and heavy. So in the back seat, I have a breaker bar. Actually I have the breaker bar there if I need to tighten my lug nuts, but it also is good for any self defense purposes too.

I have a red 4 D-cell Mag light but I haven't mounted the bracket yet. It gets jolted loose when I hit big bumps and then it rolls to the back seat.

I have my 4-D Cell Maglite, but it didn't come with any holster like that. Where can I get one of those?

Mag-Lites (even rechargeable) aren't that bright. Best rechargeable flashlights I've used are from Streamlight. Carried a standard Stinger (15,000 candlepower) on-duty for over 3 years. Wife got me an Ultra-Stinger for Valentine's Day 2001. 75,000 candlepower in a 12", 1.1 lb rechargeable flashlight. I carry mine between driver's seat and console with the head facing up when I'm out at night. Fits nice there, and readily accessible for "emergencies". I haven't mounted the DC charger in my car because I've been too lazy to run the wire neatly to my cig lighter. Only downside to these lights are cost (~$115 for complete light w/AC and DC chargers). Here's a link: http://www.streamlight.com/2001/stin...ifications.htm
The Ultra (bottom of page) is the brightest by far. I can not recommend these lights enough. But so I don't get flamed too bad for dissin' Mag-Lites, I do carry a 2 D-cell in my trunk as a backup (rechargeables only last about an hour of continuous burn time before needing recharged).

The stinger owns maglites.
Too bad the damned thing only provides 45 minutes of light before recharge :/

IMPORTANT!!!!!!

My girlfriend is going to be a lawyer and this is her advice to people with Mag-lites, bats, extignishers, the Clubs, and other blunt objects. If you get pulled over by the police and you are asked to be searched (you may decline, but they may legally cause you more trouble). If they find any of the following items and they ask you about them, DO NOT say "they are for protection". You would then self-incriminate yourself and may be arrested. If you have a bat, say you play baseball...or just hit some ***** at the park a few days ago. If you have the Club, it's for theft-protection. If you have the Mag-lite say everyone needs a flashlight. Saying that you have an object for protection, legally makes it a weapon.

Re: IMPORTANT!!!!!!

For light, I use a 2-AA cell Mag kept in the glove box.
For security I use my cell phone and the gas pedal.

May I ask why you have a breaker bar to tighten your lugs? Lugs should NEVER need to be tightened with a breaker bar. IF you do, you are prematuraly ruining your lugs, wheel, and wheel studs.

i have a 3D, but i should have gotten a 4d. at the time, 5d was the biggest and 4d was too big for me, 3d provided the fastest swings ive played baseball with my mag, but never actually hit someone (hard or with the intent to hurt them). that would hurt quite a bit.

i keep a small 2AA one in the center console or glovebox (just depends) and my trusty 3D in with the jack.

I have a 5D mag with the side handle baton attachment and carried it all the time in the car until the campus cop saw it one night and waited until I got out to class and got in the car and like 5 cops came running with flashlights and megaphones telling me to stop. The guy said it was a major felony to carry one but he let me go because he said I was a "nice guy"

I went to Home depot today, but they only had the Maglites, with no mounting brackets. As far as Fists go, I have 2 and more than willing to dust them off, but how many people actually come at you that way anymore ..?
