Electrical or mechanical gauges?
Electrical or mechanical gauges?
I am going to have my NOS kit in and I have an A/F gauge and an EGT gauge. I was going to buy a fuel pressure gauge also to be safe. Now in catalogs, I see that there are really cheap, like $36.99 mechanical gauges, and then there are the electrical ones that cost $139.99. Which shoul I get and how do they work?
Also, I see that I need a full sweep fuel gauge. What does that mean? Which one do I buy for the fuel pressure? 0-15 PSI or the one that goes to 100psi?

You need the ones that goes up to 100 psi. Get eletrical because it's just much easier to install. If you do get mechanical, make sure you get the isolator.

If you want the gauge inside the cockpit you need an electrical one or a mechanical one with a sender, you don't want a gas line inside the car.
I have a mechanical one with a 2' hose on it that I run out of the hood and under the windshield wiper so its out of the cockpit but I can still see it. I only use it at the track because I am too cheap to buy an electrical one.

Here's the instruction on the installing the isolator if you plan on going with a mechanical one. Note, that the isolator should be a the same height as the gauge....which won't happpen if you install your gauge on the a-pillar.

Like Jeff said, mechanical fuel pressure gauge without an isolator is a big NO NO for inside the cabin. You could mount that sucker on the hood

Personally, I think mounting that isolator is PITA. You might save about $100, but you will spend about 4 hours messing with it.

Wow that was quick! So there isn't any reliability issues or readings between these two gauges? How much would that isolator cost? Should I just buy the electrical one?
p.s. I just started smoking!!

I highly recommend summit racing. Awesome return policy if you end up not using it.

If you get the mechanical one with the isolator, make very sure that you still get the installaiton kit that summit has also. Otherwise you will have a huge headache like I did running around looking for parts and in the end still ordering it. Search for fuel pressure gauge insatll kit and you'll find it. Hope this helps.
