Did you look at my size requirements?

...I guess not.

Anyway, the voting looks pretty clear on what you guys recommend. The RE950s are by far the best tire I've ever had.

So far I've used:

OEM Goodyear Eagle GA 205/65-15
Toyo Proxes H4 205/65-15
Bridgestone Potenza RE930 205/65-15
Bridgestone Potenza RE950 215/60-15

These are all directional tires.

Have you guys had any problem with un-even tire wear?

It's been my experience that in order to keep tires wearing evenly you MUST get them rolling in the other direction every 6000 mi. or so.

Thats one big advantage the Dunlop SP A2 has over the RE950. Both are equally high rated tires according to tirerack and members here.

I currently have Yokohma A520's and thought they were pretty good. But htey only lasted 20k. What is the average life of the RE's?

I talked with 2 guys at tirerack who had done a road test of the AVS ES100. They really liked them. As a matter of fact they said that they were buying them for themselves. I am going to get some in about 2 weeks. with a 100 point increase in the UTOG rating they have to have made some significant changes to the tire wear problem seen with A520s.

I rotate mine front-to-back every 6k miles. They have always been rolling the same direction. I've gotten even wear for 35k miles now.

They arent ready to be replaced yet, I have at least 10k miles left on them.

I think directional tread is an advantage, especially in wet weather. Non-directional requires many more compromises in both tread design and carcass construction.

Another for RE950s... had them for 2 weeks and they're the best tires I've ever had. They grip better than my "ultra-high performance" Yokohamas did. Those weren't bad tires, these are just better.

I'm getting down to the last miles of my yokohama avs db and they have gotten LOUD! I find this unacceptable in a tire that is marketed as being quiet. After about 85% treadwear get out the ear plugs.

That's what I've heard from others with them. I think they are officially off the list...

that's cool. But then, I guess it also matter how you drive. I rotated my tires last night. They should be good for a couple of months if I take it easy. Hopefully by then, the REs will be on sale.

Same situtation as me, except my yoko's we 225/50-16 and my RE950's are 235/35-18.. the RE's are massively superior in every way so far.. only a slight, and I mean slight, increase in road noise, but that can be attributed to a wider patch. I've had em for about a month now and love that all the local members convinced me to buy them.

Do the 950's handle snow well (they're all-seasons, right?)?

I would not use the term "well". They are good enough to get through a winter. I have had them through a chicago winter and they were satisfactory. I think it would be almost impossible to have a tire that handles great in dry, wet and snow conditions. The 950's do the dry and wet great, but snow decent.

I wouldn't recommend any of those tires if you drive in any type of cold weather or snow. The ES100s get real hard when the tempeture is under 40 degrees, which makes them slippery in wet weather. I wouldn't recommend them in the snow. All the tires listed will have similar charachteristics. If you want a summer type tire, might as well go all out and get S0-3's or Kuhmo MX's. For an all season tire, I would recomend BF G-force KWDS or the new Pirreli's. They are great in the dry, wet, and snow.

Here's my situation....

Next spring I need new tires. I've decided to stick with my stock 16's year round, which means either buy summer and snow tires and pay to have the swapped 2x a year, or buy 1 set of kick-*** all seasons that can handle both.

They don't have to be super great at anything. I don't auto-x or anything, I'm more concerned with straight-line traction...which any 225/50 so do descently.

Snow they'd just have to be "good". I'm quite good at driving in the snow, as I've been doing it since I started driving and understand what you can and can't do...so I don't really _need_ a tire that would save me in the snow...but of course better is, well, better.

I tried something new recently and bought Continetal ContiExtremes, which was a mistake. The KWDS's were a better performing tire in the dry and equal in the wet. I road raced on these tires and they were decent. The KWDS's are IMO the best tire for the money in the ultra hp all season catagory. I have heard good things about the Pirreli P-Nero A/S's(?). You can find more info on them at tirerack.

i had the Yok AVS ES100 225 50 15 on my car for alittle while but the fronts were showing belts after 5000k about 4 months and i did maybe 1 or 2 burn outs. the backs are still like new the only thing i can attribute this to is flooring all through 1st on a dayly bases and maybe having some slippage up top but it was never audiable. they did have grate dry traction though much better than the kelly crap that was on it when i bought the car
