Lets still keep this going. Just interesting how many people will want in. In a month or so, lets see how many we will get, then lets all start making calls to different shops to see if they can make it happenOriginally posted by iregula

OK, here is the new deal. I'm taking the chance on purchasing the stock 2002 SE gauges from DaveB to see if I can swap out the circuit board with my existing 2000 circuit board. My hopes is that by swaping out the circuitry, everything will plug in and the odometer will have the proper reading and I will have the look of the 2002 guages (only the part that has the trip computer will be blank since there is no trip computer on my 2000 GLE).
The good news is that this is only a $200 risk. If anyone is interested, I can let you know if this works.

I've had a bad experience with the circuit board that is behind the guagues
I had a 95 sentra and I wanted the indiglo gauges, but at the time they were only mad for the 200SX. So i bought the indiglo gauges and then had to buy the circuit board, housing, fuel guage, temp guage, and tach. Had a friend who was a mechanic "hook it up for me" and killed the altenator (two of them as a matter of fact)
the wiring eventually burnt out which then required the purchase of a new wiring harness
then discovered that the circuit board had also burnt out...replaced that
it eventually ended up at the mechanic because it would cut off for no reason
so 2 months a rental car and $1500 dollars later....the indiglo guages from the 200SX were installed in my sentra and everything was working fine
then a couple days later i was rear ended at a red light and the car was totaled
messing with that circuit board and wiring is not the best of ideas even IF you are a mechanic or engineer
did I also mention that the shop I took it to....the guy fixing the car had a heart attack while working on my car???
all in all I WILL NEVER mess with my gauges like that again.....
if it ain't plug n play.....it doesnt go in the max!!!

Wow! I'm having second, third, and fourth thoughts about this. Well, when I order it, the gauge will first go to Nissan and I'll have DaveB look at it and see what he thinks before it goes out to me. I can always send it back before it actually gets to me with minimal costs.
Thanks for the (what seems to me) potentially time and cost saving advice. I am kind of a computer wizzard as I build them, which does tempt me to want to give it a try. I'm sure this temptation will dissapear once a re-read your message again.

OK, here is the update and it is looking real good. I have the 2K GLE Maxima and have purchased the 2K2 Stock Titanium Reverse Indiglo gauges. According to Nissan, it appears that the plugs from the 2K2 are almost exactly the same as the plugs for the 2K for the exception that there are additional live wires on the 2K2 plugs because of the trip computer.
Therefore, in theory, the 2K wiring should plug right in to the 2K2 gauge assembly and the whole thing was only about $230. It appears that this will be Plug-N-Play. If this is the case, there should be no need for aftermarket indiglo gauges, which seem to have an inferior design anyway. I will know for sure in about 2 days when I recieve the gauges. If your interested, just call DaveB and let me know if you need his number.

sorry, buddy, but i will be one of many who will say that those gauges that you have are not indiglo gauges, but merely stock SE gauges. if you want to see what indiglo gauges look like, go to anywere like autodynamic.com or ebay and look up "reverse indiglo gauges". you'll see what we're talking about after that.

Yes, I have seen these. In any event, if the stock 2K2 SE are not indiglo, they seem a lot nicer anyway, and the colors reverse when lit, very similar to the Lexus gauges. In any event, I would guess that a lot of people will prefer these as well.
Igor...I'm still waiting to hear what the status of this group deal is. I don't know if much more people are going to get interested...you are only going to start losing interest at this point.

I know this thread is for indiglo, but some of you expressed interest in converting to the 2K2 SE Gauges. Although everything plugs in, basically nothing works. As an example, if I have it in "Park" the "Neutral" light is on. However, none of the meters work. Therefore, although the plugs fit perfectly, it appears that the wiring has changed. I called Haynes which makes repair manuals for autos nationally. They happened to be 3 minutes from me. No info on the wiring is available but they expect to have this in about 90 days.
For now, I disassemble both my instrument panel and the new one and remove various parts and the faces of the new one and put it into my existing housing. The circuit board can not be swapped due to the thickness of the odometer display. I finally was able to get this working so that the faces of the new one properly works with my old housing. It looks almost perfect, but the lighting is somewhat uneven at night (if you know what to look for).
If I do get the wiring configurations from Haynes, I will eventually replace everything with the 2K2 instrument panel, but this works great for now. (Note: I glued the second digital display right under the new face. At night, this lights up which makes it look active, but it remains blank since 2K Maximas do not have a trip computer).
It works, but this process was not simple.

Sounds kind of ghetto...I would rather be patient and wait for a custom made guage set. If it ever comes...Igor are you out there?? Hmmm...at least give someone the name of your connection for this so we can possibly see it through.

I talked to some other companies and no-one has nor wants to make gauges for a maxima. They all say If i come up with atleast 100 people they MIGHT make it happen

foodmary,
I'm not sure you understand, there is nothing to see. These are the stock 2k2 SE gauges that I put on my 2k GLE Maxima. If you want to see what they look like, go look at a 2k2+ Maxima. There is nothing Getto about it.

If you have to "mess" with the wiring then it's ghetto. At least it won't be plug and play. Especially if some of the lighting on the guage cluster is not showing evenly. Just my piece...that's all.
Igor...which companies did you talk to? There has to be one out there that can do it for less than a 100 people. Give us a list of the companies and maybe we can help with some input on what other companies to look for.

All i do is go online and look for stores that sell the reverse-indiglo's... What we need to try is contact APC!!! They will do it, I have a feeling they will. They make soo much crap for Honda's and not Nissans... We need to tell them how many people mod maxima's so they can start making some cool stuff. After all, they do have a APC MAXIMA!Originally posted by foodmanry

Ahhh...I'll contact APC about it and see what I can come up with. I'll keep you guys posted. If they need a guinea pig for the gauges I may just use myself, I have another car I can use anyways.

I doubt they would need your gauges. They have their own APC maxima they can fiddle with.Originally posted by foodmanry

Sorry it has been a while since I have had free time to do anything. I contacted APC yesterday via e-mail and have yet to hear back from them. If I don't hear back by the end of next week I will call them, then perhaps even stop by because they are near where I live. Sorry it has taken some time, but I do not have a lot of free time.

I hope you can get them to make the gauges. I emailed them once asking about the indiglo gauges and projector headlights and I never got a response. If you go talk to them, could you ask them about making the projector headlights for us as well as the gauges? Originally posted by foodmanry
