E, I'm still waiting as you are but havent decided yet. After seeing Bob's angel eyes last night for the second time I'm really considering it. It all depends if I have to buy another MAF this week. We'll see.

with umnitza's, you mount the ring inside, lit much the same as a fiber optic cable, by a bulb outside the assembly. If the bulb burns out, you open the box that contains it and replace it.

This simple cheap kits you see on ebay and other places (as well as the DIY) are lit by led lights. At least the ones I have seen are. If that LED goes out(as they certainly do), not only do you have to take the housing apart again, but you have to take the ring apart as well. And not only do you have to take the ring apart, but you probably have to desolder and resolder a new led.

Awful lot of work for a $2 part. And a $30 kit.

There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who spend time to save money, and those who spend money to save time. Which do you prefer?

Money is replaceable. You can always go out and earn more. Time on the other hand... when it is gone, it's gone.

If you haven't paid him the 50 bucks to reserve that price, you might be too late. He posted the cutoff date on page one; we're waaay past it now! (Unless he's willing to let you squeeze in.)

It appears both are made in a similar manner, by wrapping the plastic around something round (again, I am only assuming, which is why I asked about the processes). If its the case, then the geocities link diy didn't go all the way around, but you can. You will need to be a bit more creative putting in the light source.

What do you want to do? Light up the road with your angel eyes?!?! These are for show, remember? You're in Ontario, right? You do know that by law you can ONLY have 4 lights in the front. If they are too bright and the cop sees them on, along with your headlights and fog lights BAM instant ticket. Seriously, if you want more light, put in more and brighter LEDs.

The link I provided were for n00bies with two thumbs! (j/k!) They use batteries which obviously are aimed for the occasional user. Street Glow also has similiar and brighter models that require a 12V source. These are designed for vehicular use, so obviously are provisioned for your car battery.

Ohboiya you raised an interesting point which I can't believe I missed! The "permanent" factor. Um•nitza, when the light source in your device dies (which it will eventually), how would we go about replacing it? Are you using a standard light source, or one found mostly in industrial appliances? I hope we won't have to replace the entire unit once one bulb/led dies.

Also, there's a $30 kit out now by StreetGlow (ref: http://www.streetglow.com/site/image...e/powerpak.jpg ) that can achieve similar effect for a fraction of the cost. What makes your kit $280 special?

the DIY is extremely ghetto
not even remotely close to how bright the Gen V kits are. the Gen V kits are fiber optic kits. these kits are LED's. it's like comparing the moon and the sun. halogen vs hid. you get the picture.
also, let's look at that first link. what happens if the LED blows. oh no, you have to open up the housing AGAIN just to replace an LED. these kits use fiber optic lines that are in the ring and lead OUTSTIDE of the housing into a box, containing the light bulb. it's a basic 35 watt bulb. if that ever blows, simple open the light box and replace the bulb.

also, consider how the ring is being place. that's prolly siliconed, another GHETTO way of doing it. these kits will have clips that will attach to the headlight and the rings will attach themselves onto these clips.

there really is no comparison to the quality.

Cutoff is really @ 50 or when the kit is complete.
Since we received some additional funding, we went ahead and starting the engineering of the clips right away.

That means, once testing is complete, whoever is in, is in and gets the $180 price. This is UNPRECENDENTED for a Gen V kit. Gen V is retailing for $299.

"Huh? You said Gen IV, now it's Gen V?"

Gen IV is gone, bye bye, and rather than making you pay extra for Gen V, it's going to come to you gratis.

Those NOT paying $50 by the time we are ready to rock and roll, will be given an intro price of $275 for one month and then it's $299 + shipping.

Gen V does NOT contain a 35W bulb. The bulb Gen V his 16X brighter than that And, it produces less heat!!!

As for why this is better than that utterly useless DIY, I can't even begin to compose a coherent enough response, I'm so flabberghasted.

Gen V's attributes:
Injection Molded Rings (not some blinds that you have to saw)
Engineered Light Boxes
Fiber Connectors
Fiber Optics

Don't even get me started on the technical discussions

I'm making 0 on this. Nada, ZIP, Zilch! But, so you don't think this is a charity event, I'm not going to do this if I lose money on it We can stop the development and cut our losses at any point.

I sent my payment.

UMNITZA: Look, I understand where you are coming from. We have alot of lemmings and wannabees on this board and all they do is B!TCH and B!TCH. I mean just look at this thread? How many posts are there? And how many payments? Always turns into a Post-whoring thread. I wish some moderator would moderate this better and keep the pertinant info on here.

It just burns me when we got a legitimate business person like yourself and all we get is nonsense on this thread. Absolute nonsense from 90% of the posts.

Its simple, if you dont want to buy the lights, dont post FOCKER! Just move on to the next thread to post *****. All this crap about "I MIGHT be interested" and all they do is B!TCH and Moan about it being too hard to install and they dont want to get in on it cause they dont feel comfortable with the install, well I got something for you, dont buy it then! Simple, if you dont got the skills to handle the project or cant get someone to help you then dont bother. Thats like me saying I want to drop a V8 in my car and dont want to install it but want someone else to install it but cant find someone to do it. Well Im I gonna sit here and b!tch at the people? Or just not do it or wait till I get help? Think you freagin lemmings.

Jesus, I know Im being harsh, but someone has to say it, this thread is COMPLETELY out of control. Give some respect to the people who made this possible and stop posting crap. Post if you paying period. Dont post other crap about waiting for pics. Just move on to the next thread smoky.

I need to clarify for some of the members:

Gen IV and Gen V = MY NOMENCLATURE for DDE

Gen III Maxima etc. if YOUR NOMENCLATURE for the Maxima.

This is only for 2002-3 Maximas - AKA 5th Gen - the name of the thread.

I think you are being a little unfair. Half of us were begging for more people to jump on board. Those without the skills were explaining why they are hesitant.

It is remarks like that are the reason people get scared away. From this thread and this website. And subsequently why I may not get the angel kit when this whole affair scares too many people away. And why it took this angel eye deal to pull me back after I stopped coming for so long because of the 80% bad attitude of the members here.

Lighten up.

So... how is this GD coming along? How many people do we have so far? Are we gonna go ahead and make the angel eyes even without 50 people?

we don't yet have anything new - the mold maker is proceeding with our money to produce the prototypes - I figured you'd want some "detailed" (not for competitor eyes) pictures.

We HAVE one more deposit:

Maurice C.

AKA ICUlookN - please email me so that I have your email address!!

Thanks.

I'm placing a large order for other stuff with the mold maker, as soon as he receives my payment, it will go ahead

Just to let EVERYONE know about 3rd Gens.

I "think" it's possible - why?
Because the stock US OEM E36 headlights fit into your headlight opening.

I sell something called a Euro Ellipsoids - ZKW. It's a good headlight - ok, it's actually great - complete with projector, etc.

I have NO idea if it will fit because they are larger than the existing headlights. When we get them in stock, I'd be willing to let someone "try" if they are located in SoCal next to San Marcos.

Pics will come once we've got the mold finished.

I think I'm going to do it, but I have a few more hurdles to clear first.

I need a sales infrastructure in place before I commit to stocking 22 pieces.

I'll let you know!!

I'm losing my mind with this software. I have selected to be subscribed to it only about 100 times. I assumed that with no updates, I didn't need to check in and that I should just proceed.

I sent a SIZABLE $$$$$ deposit to the mold maker on Friday. It will be in his hands on Tuesday. Hopefully, this allows him to make the first tester molds on Friday of this coming week.

Now, for the latest info:

I've been a bit busy -
a) I've begun distributing a great set of wheels (way more inexpensive than people think) called iForged. They come in 2/3pc and 2pc with bolts for a 3pc look. That has slowed me somewhat. These fit all makes because they are custom made forged with custom offset, bolts, and backspacing.

b) I've also begun retailing a BMW intake called ECIS (unrelated).

c) And, I retail Axxis Ultimate Brake pads (not sure if there is an application for your cars).

This is not meant as an advertisement but mroe of an explanation of why I've been unable to respond as quickly as usual.

We received ONE more deposit.
Gino G.

That brings our total to 24 I think. Almost half way point. There is no "deadline" per se. But, basically, when the kit is ready, there will be XX spots for the cheaper price left.
