It's very easy to do. Don't let that dissaude you from getting it. Also if you go 5-speed I know you'll love it.

This system has a lot for the price. I wouldn't recommend this system for someone that just wants a basic alarm. This isn't a basic alarm. Consider this system if you want the luxury of remote start and the peace of mind of having a pager remote. I would recommend having a proximity sensor installed when you get the install done. It's an additional charge but well worth it. Sure, this system has bells and whistles. But none of the features are BS. Silent arm/disarm, remote start, panic, valet hand over (I call this turbo timer mode), internal temperature can be displayed on the remote, remote uses regular AAA battery and should last a long time, parking timer on the remote (set how many minutes or hours you paid for at the meter and it will alert you), 24 hour remote start (have the car start up and a certain time every day!), beep/vibrate option on remote, current time, and alarm clock. Those are just some of the features the system has. All of which are very useful. If you add a proximity sensor. You get the ability to warn people/would be thiefs if they get too close to the car. You can adjust the sensor. I have mine adjusted so it will warn if you get as close as the mirrors of the car. The alarm will not go off. It will just chirp. If you break the glass and reach in, the alarm will go off. The proximity sensor will trigger a full alarm if you reach in to the cabin of the car. This system is part of DEI's ESP series of alarms. These systems can be configured using the DEI Bitwriter. It's basicly a small handheld unit that lets you configure the characteristics of the alarm yourself. I believe Don may start selling the Bitwriter's so we can fine tune the way the alarm works. =) Great for us that like fine tuning.

Features of interest that may be just BS:
Indiglo backlighting of 2-way remote (maybe not BS but it doesn't do anything)
Ringtones for alarm and other alerts on the 2-way (2 of the tones are christmas tunes!! Aggghh!!)

Note:
Alarm stays armed and doors locked when the car is remote started.
System only comes with one two way remote. A second regular remote is included by doesn't have any two way features. You can add additional remotes to the system easily.

*** If you have a few extra bucks I think this system is worth it.

Great review,

explain the valet hand over mode, Im assuming it keeps the car running with the key removed since you called it turbo timer mode? Can the duration be set?

How much extra is the proximity sensor and bitwriter?

Yes, you can take the key out of the ignition and lock the doors and arm the alarm. The car will turn off at the set remote start auto off time. If you remote start the car and don't get in at a set amount of time, it turns off. The time frame value for this is used for the valet handover mode. Some of the turbo guys can save money on a turbo timer with this system. But many boost controllers come with turbo timers already. The duration is set with the bitwriter I believe. Don will have to clarify this. I'm pretty sure thats the case though. Mine is set to 15 minutes. So I can run in to a store and leave the car running. If I spend less than 15 minutes in the store, my car will still be running. Great for cold/hot days. =)

The proximity sensor was an additional 80 dollars. The bitwriter doesn't have a set price from Don yet. He said he could offer it. He didn't say he would. =)

Re: 2k2?

Yes, it will work on your 2K2. You will probably want to get additional shock sensors for your HIDs. You can put one shock sensor behind each HID housing. If anyone messes with them, the alarm will go off.

Are these available for purchase without installation? In other words, can we buy them off of you without having them installed by you? I know someone else on the board was having a group deal on these but the only stipulation was that it had to be installed by them.
