Is it necessary to use Hood Pins when installing a CF Hood? I've read about how CF Hoods can fold, flap, etc. Does the OEM hood latch mean that hood pins would be unnecessary? Also, would the OEM hood struts still work to hold up the hood?

Cf hoods are almost at half the weight of stock hoods. Hoodpins are installed for precautionary reasons more than anything else, helping to secure the hood in place in case the latch should give out for whatever the reason. The lighter hood will experience wind resistance when traveling at highway speed. It is up to the consumer on whether you want hoodpins installed or not. I've seen lots of carbonfiber hood owners drive around without hoodpins and I always advise them to keep checking on the latch, make sure none of the bolts are loose etc. I've also seen what an unsecured carbonfiber hood did to the windshield because there were no hoodpins in place.

OEM hood struts are made to support 45lb+ stock hood. You will have a very difficult time pushing the carbonfiber hood down if you use OE hood struts because there is simply too much pressure in the struts.

97MaxGurl, Can the CF hoods be pre-drilled for the OEM windshield washer nozzles and hood pins??? If so how much extra would that be???

RedlineMax.com carbonfiber hoods ALL come with washer nozzle indicator, all you have to do is drill thru that opening. As for hoodpins, you will need to install the hood first and follow these steps:

1. bolt hood pin w/ drilled bumper back into the holes vacated by the bumpers.

2. roughly set the height of the pins by looking at the neighboring light covers. Then tighten the pins!

3. dab some white-out onto the tips of the pins.

4. Let the hood down gently.

5. The paint will mark the hood for drilling.

Each car may fit slightly different, therefore no manufacturer will 'pre-drill' hoodpins on the hoods.

One of the few times I wish lived close to New York to take advantage of this. The hood would look great on my white 2k, especially with the new gunmetal LE37T's that will get here is the next few weeks.

Real carbonfiber under the clear coat. That day was raining, that's why the pics make the hood look 'stock'. I'll have to take pics whenever the customer drops by.

Ange,

Sorry I couldn't make it over today. I ended up working from 6 am to 8:30 pm. Just got home a little while ago. Looked like it was raining anyway. Tomorrow should be a more normal day. I'll stop by in the late afernoon so you can take the pictures.

Ange,

Looks like another 12 plus hour day. I'm still at work and it doesn't look good for making it down there again. Sorry. I'll call you on Wednesday when I see what my situation is looking like.
