turned into a little kids match, which i involved myself into, which i should not have, so i apologize......the runners in this are me and danNY. he's mainly setting up, i'm personally doing the 5th gens. as an update, the shift boots are done, pics are here.
Shift Boots
the ebrake is also semi-done. it was already made. i fit it on my car and wanted to make some changes. unfortunately, weather has not permitted me to do what i wanted to do. as annoying as that is, i've tried. i promised this week. and i will try to fulfill this. the thread has gone long enough. i will attempt to finish soon. i would show preliminary pics of the ebrake boot, but was told not to reveal anything until the maker was satisfied with the outcome.
if you're questions are regarging 3rd or 4th gens, i would hop DanNY finds this thread and update those people regarding those gens.

I got in touch with redline and they said that the boots for the 5th gen are all done, just not listed on their website. Interestingly, he asked for 2k-1 or 2k2-3, which makes me think that the two have different boots..??? Also, he said he would give me a "discount" if I ordered them, since they're new...waiting to see what price he says...I would just as well do the GD depending on price....so what's the deal - are the 5th and 5.5th gens same or different.
OK so here's the deal...
3rd gen
shifter is done and is on sale now.
ebrake is done just need to do a little more final adjustment...pretty much ready to go.
4th gen
shifter is done and is on sale now.
ebrake is also done and is on sale now.
5th gen (5spd) (2000-2001)
shifter is done (waiting for install instructions)
5th gen (6spd) (2002-2003)
shifter is done and is on sale now (but also waiting on install instructions)
5th gen ebrake (5spd and 6spd)
both are waiting on polo's install and pics....not available yet.
please do not keep emailing redlinegoods direct unless you're going to buy or have ordering question...don't email him asking about when the 5th gen will be done. you'll know the same time he knows. not any sooner.
i'm not going anywhere so don't think this won't happen. we're waiting for a FULL LINE product so we can make a better GD. people complain that i leave certain generations out of the picture but then none of you guys can wait for things to be done. i want a GOOD fitting boot..not something that's slapped together...that takes time. unless you all want a bad fitting boot then we're good to run now.
if you feel that you don't want to or can't wait then go ahead and order direct at redlinegoods.com.
we should have everything all set and ready to go by early March. if there's another p1ssing match i'll have the thread deleted again.
brown stock boot owners...the brown color from redlinegoods will NOT match your stock interior. if you feel that you're willing go for a contrast look you can get a black boot w/ a black ebrake boot...or get the brown ebrake boot from redlinegoods.
the fitment on the STS owners is exactly same as stock.
so in a nutshell i'm waiting for polo to get moving on his ebrake piece. once that's done then we'll be moving on with the GD.
any questions? feel free to PM me.

Hey guys i thought theye were done for the fifth gen.
Hello,
yes, we do have those items (minus the armrest cover). They are not advertised yet because we have not finished that project, but we have information that the fitment is correct. What we can do for you is sell you those items at their retail value ($60 shipped for shift and ebrake boot) and
- if there happen to be any fitment problems, we'll fix them for you for free
- if you then send us the pictures of what they look like installed, we'll give you 50% of your money back.
- we'll give you the rest of your money back if you help us write an installation write-up (take some pictures as you go along and write a short description for each step).
I'm looking forward to hearing from you,
Maciek
Yes I know it says the project is not done but then it says that the fitment is correct.
Can you shed some light. Also what will be the group deal.

All, I took redline up on their offer and got the shifter and ebrake boot shipped for 50 bucks....It will be here early next week. I will install and post photos as soon as it's installed. I got black leather with tan stitching (to match my tan leather seats).
Btw - not sure if you guys are aware, but Redline is overseas (in Poland, i think) - or at least that's where the boots are shipped from - so being overseas may be a reason why the GD is having difficulty......

in anycase, i just did the ebrake boot a few minutes ago. it's a PITA, i will tell you know. there is no way around this, you MUST remove the complete armrest console to complete this job. slapping it on will look so tacky. anyway, i'm washing the car, and cleaning it up, so when i'm done, i'll take various pics of the NEW REDLINE EBRAKE BOOT
How difficult is it to ttake the whole armrest console off? I'm thinking back to my Accord, where it was pretty easy outside of a few wires to disconnect.....
Also, Polo - is the 5th gen and 5.5th gen boot the same or different? Was thinking about getting a 2k2-3 shifter console (with the silver frame around the shifter) to replace the boring looking 2k console, but don't want to do that if I have to get a 2nd boot from Redline...

Looking forward to seeing the pics PoLo. Thanks for the hard work. Sorry to hear its such a PITA though.
you guys have some luck...pics are on my server, but hte server is down. when it comes back up, i'll be sure to post asap. pics came out pretty nice
dont' apologize...i'm just sorry that this is something we'll all have to deal with. after looking at it closely, there is no way around this. any boot you buy, from any company, will have to have you remove the armrest console to mount it. yes, they will say you don't have to, but i have pics of it mounted from above and it just looked so tacky, so i went the extra step, and i'm glad i did. i will post both pics ASAP.

As Promised.....
A Clean install, definitely what we are looking for and nothing less

as you can see, i had to remove the armrest cover, flip it over, remove the rubber housing, mount the boot through the holes, and put the rubber housing back un to hold the boot in. this held everythign in place. if any of you are worried, i overreacted with the armrest issue. there are a total of 5 screws and the console completely lifts out of it's location. i will post all screw locations and the best way to remove it.
at least now you can see. i leave you with one pic because i need to send all the pictures, with instructions to danNY and to redline for their approval. but as you can see, it's finally done and once everything is approved, redline should start rollin these out.

Looks great!
I was hoping for a different implementation with the way it attaches to the console, but I understand it is very difficult there.
How did you re-attach the rubber housing with the leather boot in between? As it is stock, the plastic "studs" that the rubber housing attaches to do not seem long enough, so placing a layer of leather in between can only make it more difficult.
How well is the rubber housing held in place? Can you push on it (lightly) without having it loosen from the console "studs"? The reason I ask is because I removed my rubber housing and tried putting it back with no luck....

how did you try to put the rubber housing on. from above (console still on) or did you remove the console. from above yes i did try as well to put the rubber housing on and it was nearly impossible. you do need quite some force to pop it in, which is why you need to remove the console. secondly, how else do you put the rubber console UNDER the new boot unless you remove the console and flip it over. is the rubber housing securely in place. YES. the "studs" are thick at the tip, so a little force to get it over the thick part, then it pops in. i tugged at it a bit when i was done, and it was very secure. in fact, when you said you had no luck putting it back in, that should show that once it's in, it's gonna take quite some force to get it out again.

hope i've answered your worries.
I just put mine on as well (shifter and ebrake boot) but need to open it up again, bc I didn't fit the rubber housing piece under it and a couple of the holes have come off the pegs. I might actually try to just use some silicone to attach it more securely...oh, and by the way, this is what it looks like on the early 5th gen (2k0-1)

also install howto would be great.
If these fit correct.. would they really need a zip tie?

now, if youw ant it to sit higher, permanently, what i am saying is to get a razor and slice on the inside part of the upper part of the boot, where the fold is. run a zip tie in there. no one will see it because it's on the inside. then you put the upper end of the boot where you want it. tighten the zip tie and there you go.
