The S&B that I'm carrying right now have the open top filter design. As far as the construction, they are equal. S&B are made in the USA and use just as good materials. They are just not as large a company as K&N.

If you already one of our K&N kits there is no real reason to upgrade to a S&B.

Bryan,

I was part of your very 1st group deal way way way back in the day. Well all I have is the very basic intake from you. I would like to add a midpipe because it makes it look so purdy. How much would a midpipe and couplers run?

Can you make an intake that puts the z32 maf at least 18 inches from the blower inlet on a 4th gen super charger?

Maybe run the intake pipe parallell to the charger pipe somehow? I dunno. :>

If you can mock up a sample I can make anything. For your purposes I'd just go to a shop and have them make one up for you. It'd be fastest that way.

I recieved mine on Fri, and installed it on Sat. Installation was extremely easy and everything went smooth. Great product, and good craftsmanship. My only problem with this setup is that it is way too loud. I honestly have never heard an intake that is as loud as this, and I've had similar setups on other cars. At about 4500 RPM it sounds as though it is going to come through the firewall. Do you have any suggestions on how to mellow this thing out? I may consider moving back to oem if I cannot quiet this a some.

Most people like the loudness because it is only really loud if you are at WOT. Otherwise it sounds pretty close to stock. This is the first time that I've ever had anyone have an issue with the sound it produces.

Do you gun it all the time?

I think it was just the initial shock of moving from the quiet oem, to this monster. It is starting to grow on me. The quality is much better than other intakes that I have purchased before. I retract my previous statement. This thing is great

It would be best to just buy a K&N kit at your local autoparts store because of the shipping.

I stock the AEM recharge kits. They are all the same accross all brands, from K&N, AEM, Injen, S&B, JWT. The AEM kit is just nicer and gives you more fluid per $ spent.

It is $8.99 + $5 shipping for the AEM kit.

What is the differnce between an Apexi and K&N and S&B filter. Which one is the best and why would you recommend for a 01 Max? I am looking into an intake more for the increase I have heard in your mpg. Let me know what will work the best!!

The Apexi is the best overall filter but is also the most expensive filter out there. You will actually see the results of the filtering ability of the Apexi when you do oil changes. You'll see cleaner oil coming out, there are other people on this board that will attest to this as well.

If you just want a basic setup, nothing fancy, then go with the Quicktake series of intakes that do not come with the midpipe. If you want the best, go with the Apexi, if you are on a budget, go with the S&B.

Yes I am interested in the apexi setup. Now I am not big on looks. Does the midpipe do anything but give it a better look? Also what would I be looking at price wise for an apexi filter setup with no midpipe?

The intake kit w/o the midpipe is $59.95 for the K&N intake and $119.95 for the Apexi intake kit.

FYI the Apexi kits are on backorder until July 1st.

Bryan

I would have to say that it makes a very small increase in performance. 90% of the performance increase would come from losing the stock air box.

I have the S&B open top filters that are not listed on the site. They are $109 for the entire intake system. They carry the same 1,000,000 mile warranty as K&N. Go to www.sbfilters.com for more info.

Do you have pictures of a the apexi setup with no midpipe. I want to leave the stock air scoop on, so I was wondering w/o the midpipe would that leave the filter close to get the incoming air from the stock scoop? Any pictures of this setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
