Hello talkinghorse,
Could I request a quote for a air filter (drop in), [1]EAo13 oil filter, [3]quarts 75W-90 GL-4 MTF, one case [12 qts] of 100% 5W-30. Could I also receive a quote for a larger volume case, maybe in 1 gallon containers in both the 100% and XL series?
ship to 94707
Sorry to bug you about this noob question, but my car has had oil consumption issues with Mobile1 supersyn 100% 5W-30, about a quart every 3000 miles. should I run with a slightly heavier weight oil, like 10W-30? I read that on the org somewhere that people were thinking that it was the thiness of Mobile1 5W-30. I live in the bay area in california, weather hottest= 100F / [mountains] coldest= 0F.
Thanks for offering this deal to org members!

Yes, oil being thin can promote consumption, and switching to a higher viscosity grade can definitely help. On the other hand, sometimes just switching to a better oil can help consumption, even if it's in the same viscosity grade.
I'd stick with Amsoil 5w-30 for now. It's a very very good oil that is clearly superior to most grades of Mobil 1. If that doesn't fix your consumption, try Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30, which is even better (and can also stretch your oil change interval well past 10,000 miles, depending on your driving). If that doesn't work, you definitely want a higher viscosity grade. From Amsoil's product catalog, I'd suggest the 5w-40 European Car Formula (http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/afl.aspx), which is also a great oil and gives great results on a very wide variety of engines.
Just FYI, the viscosity grade doesn't always tell you everything: Mobil 1 5w-30 is actually thicker at operating temperature than Mobil 1 10w-30 or Amsoil 10w-30. If you really want to know what's thicker and what's thinner, you have to look up the actual viscosity figures (measured in cSt) at 100 degrees Celsius. For example, Mobil 1 5w-30 is 11.3 cSt at that temperature, whereas Mobil 1 10w-30 is 10.0 cSt and Amsoil 10w-30 is 10.7 cSt -- all in the 30-weight range, but in different parts.

Concerning your oil consumption, viscosity is only one part of it and minor variations within the same grade really won't make that much of a difference. However, other factors, such as volatility (the oil's evaporation under high temperature operating conditions) and the oil's resistance to breakdown can make a difference. AMSOIL offers much lower volatility than competing oils, and lower is better. The fact that AMSOIL lubricants resist evaportion so well does several things for you: it can lower oil consumption; it keeps engines very clean; and the oil resists chemical breakdown longer, providing better protection and enabling the user to safely extend drain intervals.
The PM I sent is pretty lengthy as it contains a lot of info. Pls send me an e-mail or give me a call if you need to discuss. I can also e-mail you tech data bulletins on any AMSOIL product and some very informative brochures (test and comparison data) for your reference.
Let me know how I can help. thx

I can get the stock (rectangular) filter for your max, and it's made from the same material as the induction filter you previously bought. These filters are guaranteed for 4 years, 100,000 miles with annual cleanings...just as with the induction filter, these are dry-type filters and are easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. I use this filter in my own car.
Sent you a PM with the cost and ordering information...I look forward to hearing from you.
thx

If the car were an automatic, I generally recommend folks have 6 quarts of ATF on-hand as a drain/refill can require anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5 quarts...it just depends.
Pls clarify what you need (ATF or MTG) and can send you the cost.
thx
