Depends on what kind of amateur. If you feel confident under the dash cutting wires and can follow a wiring diagram then you may be able to do it.

What's the exact difference between the remote starters for automatics and manuals?

 

The one for the Manual has to go through a process when you turn the car off to make sure that it is not in gear.
You would have to park the car, take the key out, the car will still be on, parking brake and in neutral, then lock doors and the car will turn off. If you open the doors or take parking brake off it won't remote start. The fact that the doors stay locked and the parking brake is still set will let it remote start.

Do you need a module for the remote start to work on the alarms or can you use a spare key. If the module is needed how much?

 

You may need a bypass to use the remote start, it depends on what car you are putting it on. We sell those also, they are usually about $40.
