CATTMAN Weekly Sale - ends 12 April

Cattman Performance Weekly Sale
(ends 13 April 2007)
(sorry, some day I'll learn to read a calender)

We take most orders by phone - call 520.575.6195 if u have free LD or 800.759.9920 if not (US and Canada). Open M-F from 9:30-5:30 MST/PDT.
Featured parts change from day-to-day, if you don't see what you're looking for, check again later. OTOH, what you see today may not be here tomorrow.

Exhaust "Backorder Discount"
There aren't enough exhaust parts in stock for a sale this week, so here are some rare Spring discounts on headers, catbacks and y-pipes we'll be receiving during the next 2-4 weeks. [There are a small # of catbacks, y-pipes and cats in stock at regular prices for immediate shipment.]

Place your order during this promotion to get the discount and we won't charge the CC until we receive your part (always our policy). Here are the exhaust discounts:
- Cattman Headers and 04-07 Cattbacks, $50 off (reg. price $839-849*)
- Cattman 95-03 Cattbacks, $40 off (reg. price $599*)
- Cattman Y-pipes, Mufflers and B-pipes, $30 off (reg. price $275-359*)

Okay, stupid question Im sure, but what are the advantages of installing these ES sets? I just put on some new Tokico struts last year, and they are kinda noisy. Just wondering if these would remedy anything having to do with the increased stiffness.

Thanks

Hard to diagnose from a distance, but if the suspension rattle/vibration is coming from "joints" where worn stock rubber bushings that aren't providing a stiff enough "buffer" to prevent noise from the stiffer struts, then the ES bushings should help. And, even if they didn't, you'd still receive the other benefits they provide.

I was looking at the motor mounts, but I have an automatic.

One of the mounts is electronically controlled I believe.
Any experience on this? can I still switch out the mount, I think someone said that its the exact some mount, you just have to keep the harness plugged in to avoid codes.

Hey Brian, with all the weather and what not in the northeast what do expect the average life of the coilovers to be? Considering spirited driving.

Since there's no aluminum, and the steel's beautifully plated with electroless nickel, I wouldn't expect corrosion to be an issue.

The strut bodies and lower mounts are very robust, so there shouldn't be any deformation over time under heavy use. Another key aspect, compared with other designs, is that these have far fewer moving parts.

Perhaps the key aspect of their longevity is that they're also rebuildable, and Progress is right here in the US, with a lab that can not only rebuild, but custom tune their struts.

I'm fairly familiar with this. The front mount in all 95-03 Maximas with auto trannies has a liquid-filled bushing with electrostatic damping. It is about 4" in diameter, 0.5" larger than the non-electric version of the front mount that comes in all 5 and 6 speed 95-03 Maximas.

Because of the size difference, an Energy Suspension MM bushing will not work in the front mount. However, the rear mounts in the auto and 5M Maximas are the same - no electrical connection and a 3.5" diameter - so we sell a single MM bushing for the autos (that goes in the rear mount).

I have customers that have replaced their front auto mounts with front manual mounts (the metal frames the bushings fit into) so they can use both MM bushings. No one has reported (to me) a CEL from getting rid of the liquid filled front mount from an auto. I've also never heard of a CEL from when they rupture (which happens occasionally), but I could be wrong in either case.

Most importantly, the Cattman FastCat is the only street-legal, bolt-in cat for the Maxima that will actually make power; conservatively 3-5whp and 3-5 ft/lbs, and many have reported more.

So-called "performance cats" either have ceramic substrates or metal substrates (cores). The performance of ceramic cats is limited, and in fact, the stock Nissan cat is one of the very best. We dyno-tested the major brands and none made more power than the stock Nissan cat (typically a Calsonic) - and some clearly made LESS.

Metal cats as a group perform better, breaking down into the 400-cell and 200-cell versions. The 400-cell cats meet EPA requirements pretty easily, but since the holes are smaller, they cause more backpressure and don't make as much power.

200-cell cats flow the best and are the only cat design that seems to make significant power, BUT, they don't tend to clean up the exhaust as effectively; they have typically been used for race applications only and can't pass the EPA testing.

The substrate we use for our FastCats is the exception - its the only 200-cell, hi-performance cat that has EPA approval for sreet use, so you can be confident you'll pass emissions. We sniffed it at the dealership, and our FastCat (on a Maxima w/ headers!) tested very clean.

Its also the only bolt-in cat for the Maxima that includes these features:

- all metal, 200-cell, highest flow possible
- incredibly thick, stainless steel "barrel", not tack-welded sheet metal
- 3/8" welded flanges, not 1/4" flanges that are loose on the ends, its a perfect fit
- actually makes power, conservatively 3-5whp and 3-5 ft/lbs
- full installation kit, including metal Nissan gaskets

Our next header shipment will cover all 95-03 Maximas (95-04 I30/I35). I expect them in the next 2-3 weeks, but should have a more exact estimate after checking on production early next week.

"I think I completely missed this message, sorry about that. No, the GR2s are a direct stock replacement on all of the 95-07 Maximas. If you have high miles, its very worthwhile to replace the upper front strut insulators (use the authentic Nissan part only in this case), and we have those at a discount.

Brian C Catts
Cattman Performance"

hey brian thanks for pm'ing me back. Im noob at this so if you can help me out, then ill be picking up a set of springs and kybs from you.

When you said front strut insulators is that a part I would need to buy besides buying the progress spring/kyb gr2 suspension set?

Will the progress springs give me an even drop with NO rear butt saggage?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Yes, you'd buy the Nissan (only Nissan) strut insulators separately (also sometimes referred to as upper front strut mount because the threaded end of the strut rod comes up through it). I forgot to mention that you'd probably also want new dustboots/bumpstops, and KYB makes a nice set. Check with us when you order, we can provide both parts at a good price.

The Progress springs lower the front 1.7" and the rear about 1.3", assuming the car is near stock weight. If there's 200lbs of stereo gear in the trunk and 3 guys in the back seat, obviously the rear springs will go lower, and when that weight's taken out, the car will return to its previous height and the springs won't sag. They're lifetime warrantied by Progress from sagging.

Here's a FastCat picture.

I'll note that this pic is a year old and the flanges are now a slightly different shape (still thick), but ithe current version is basically the same thing and definitely the same superior all-metal substrate (the only one of its kind with EPA approval for street use).

We do full system discounts when starting out with retail prices, but with the current sale, you just add up the numbers to get a full system quote. First decision is whether you want that full system to start with headers, or a performance y-pipe. After that, just add in the FastCatt and Cattback.

Typically, if your main cat is working properly, and you are able to prevent any CELs (requiring an O2 simulator with headers, but not with a y-pipe), you won't have a problem with emissions.

Thanks again,

With a y-pipe you'll re-install all four sensors. With headers you use an O2 simulator along with the two secondary sensors (which remain wired into the circuit, but are not screwed into the exhaust).

That will be about the same time you get them, right Brian?.
Let me know thanks.

We'll have more 95-99 and 00-03 catbacks (and FastCats) around the middle of this coming week, which means no more discounted "backorder" sales after Monday (16 April), maybe Tuesday. I'm posting another weekly sale, so check that for current prices.
