Bump steer kit Version 2, first run was successful overall.

Whats up again fellas, here trying to gain interest on the Bump steer kit. The first batch was a total success. So many people wanted a set, steven huang aka b15azn decided to do a second group buy and possible the last for the year so DO NOT MISS OUT! The design hit a bit of a snag on super slammed 5th gens, when slammed the wheels would toe in but not out. Reason being because the inner tie rod threads were shorter on the 5th gens but longer on the 4ths. a32 inner tie rod(7.1cm) a33 inner tie rod(5.8-5.9cm). A guy in CT, im not sure if hes on this forum, dropped atleast 4 inches has the bump steer kit installed with proper alignment and yielded excellent results. We re ran a test on two other 5th gens who are dropped low but not slammed to see if the issue was still there, with proper alignment again the results were great!

So for the second batch the issue has been corrected by adding more thread so for those who are looking to go lower than 2.5 inches should really consider this kit!. Also, with more extensive research steven found out that the kit also fits a34 chassis as well! so guys dont let this group buy slip. I am barely on this forum anymore and so is steve. We've been doing everything via fb to keep contact with customers constant as well as picture friendly and the TDMimports page is there as well with other things you guys might like. Continue down and read more about the product and you guys decide. Our cars have poor aftermarket support, steven has been in the nissan suspension game for awhile, and is now willing to make is stuff ONLY if there is interest so lets show some support.

HE also drove all the way from ohio two weekends back to NYC and we hosted an event for him, he came through with a ton of TDMi products discounted for us to buy as well as... LOTS of free beer =) so lets show some support fellas, lets get it! Since steve isnt on here often, feel free to inbox me or take down my number since im working very closely with him to get this second batch even bigger than the first, so if you want to be added to the list i can maybe make a special maxima.org list for those not on Facebook. so let me know!

Please Read and all the information. This is first come first serve, and there are no dibs to be calling out. This is LIMITED SUPPLY, and it probably will be our last batch of the YEAR of 2013.

Info:
Contrary to popular belief, by lowering the cars should be able to increase the stability of the car during cornering due to the lower of center of gravity.
The actual fact is when we lower the car we are also changing the geometry of the steering control arms and instead of reducing body roll, actually introducing more of it.
Bump steer is caused by bumps in the road or track interacting with improper length or angle of your suspension and steering linkages. You can often feel the bump steer as a jerk in the steering wheel to the side when you go over a bump or uneven pavement.
The main goal of this kit is to bring the suspension geometry back into factory spec after lowering the car, reducing body roll, increased turn in speeds and eliminating bump steer.

Okay. He said it would be $20 extra for Canada shipping, still worth the price with a lifetime guarantee.

I have the 1st edition of the bump steer kit on my car driving right now and trust me it does the job..the way it sits when you're lowered it takes a lot of pressure off the steering rack and once you get an alignment done you get that nice crisp steering again and it eliminates that sketchy jerk feeling whenever you hit bumps...those who know my car know I'm pretty low so if I'm telling you it's worth the money you know I'm not bullsh!tting lol

So what are you doing about ball joint relocation?
relocating the tie rod end without relocating the ball joint only makes the bumpsteer problem worse- not better.

Be sure to keep in mind that "sharp steering response" (cause by additional Ackerman in this case) DOES NOT mean that your bumpsteer problems are solved.

I hate to be a naysayer, but I ran into this problem 10 years ago when I was just learning about suspensions and proper performance setup. this is front end geometry 101, and unfortunately you've only done one of the two parts needed to solve the problem.

Not a suspensions expert but I will have Steve handle this one, besides even if the bump steer kit does solve half the problem, I'm grateful for him even making them, cuz no one else would but I remember him mentioning something about ball joints for us in the future sooo more interest from you guys = moar stuffs!

so if you are cheap, you can not buy this.
there is a ton of stress pulling on the steering rack when you are lowered, and there is a big difference on where the ends mount above the knuckle, or below with this kit.
obviously if you are lowered you wont be experiencing cruise liner handling like a stock maxima. there is no one making or forcing you to buy this- so if you dont want it, then carry on. If you are lowered and actually "live the low life" and not just lower your car down for a few pics then you should know that things wear out and there is more to slapping some coils on and cranking them down. DONT get me started on axles!...

not only does this kit seem to shrink bumps down, but steering is MUCH lighter. the little bumps are not felt as harshly through the steering wheel. sometimes while on the highway if you get caught in the seams of the lanes you would also get pulled along the seam, this sensation has gone away now too. Steering feels more direct and in control as well. Turning radius is about the same. My stance doenst allow for full lock turns, I wouldnt turn that far anyway- but I can make any turn just the same. Big bumps feel more solid and there is not as much of a "tremor". The thing that makes this kit "work" is that the steering wheel wont be pulled one way or another- so you cant feel the bump steer that will always be there. There will always be bump steer- unless you have a numb wheel like on a buick. The sneeze factor its sometimes called. hah
rather than the bumps jerking the wheel (which you are actually holding onto hopefully) there is slack in the rack again to absorb the pull.

When installing on an A32- it threads on almost a 1/2 inch further than the factory end links. if you leave the nut the same, you will have about 2.5 to 3 degrees of toe out. so alignments are needed right away! I had mine scheduled for first thing the next morning. You can drive- you will get bad feathering on your tires and have a hard time controlling the car after the install and before the alignment. if you know a great place for alignments- talk to them about installing the kit for you. it is really very simple and doesnt require any special tools. so if you cant go the same day, dont install.
I am not one to talk about alignments, I have had cut springs (there was about 2 full coils left)--on my max for about 2 years and never got an alignment. I also did my coilover install and didnt do an alignment. SO if I say to DO an alignment, you do it! haha

but yeah, congrats to the peeps that have already bought the first batch, and kudos to the peeps on this list. not only is the part you are buying great, but Steve and TDMi is awesome .

and yeah- im the "guy from ct who is slammed'.. i am not a hard parker. i drive 50 miles a day min for work and am not afraid to drive at the height i am at for any road trip. people only ride in my car once and then offer to drive after that as the scraping freaks most people out- so ya know- what ever.

"it is worth it"

I cant wait to get mine! Just putting this out there if anyone has a firestone around them they do lifetime alignments.

Per their website:

"
  • Provide a Lifetime Warranty* on the alignment, which means we’ll set alignment angles on your vehicle every 6,000 miles or whenever needed, free of charge, for as long as you own it.
"

Its about twice the amount of a standard alignment but you NEVER ever have to pay for an alignment again as long as you own that vehicle.

now for the people that said that there's a huge improvement...is that partially due to swapping out a worn tie rod out for heim joint (or a new joint) which is firmer with less deflection?

It fits the a34 inner tie rod, this kit replaces your outer tie rod. Its direct install, pretty straight forward. Gonna try to find a quick install video for you to get an understanding

I saw that video 3 hours ago. So just take out outer tie rod and put this on. Correct?

Be sure to keep in mind that "sharp steering response" (cause by additional Ackerman in this case) DOES NOT mean that your bumpsteer problems are solved.

I hate to be a naysayer, but I ran into this problem 10 years ago when I was just learning about suspensions and proper performance setup. this is front end geometry 101, and unfortunately you've only done one of the two parts needed to solve the problem.
This.

That said, this is a great first step, looking forward to further developments. As soon as you guys figure out the ball joints im in.

i'm working out a few things with TDM right now.
the deal is paused for the moment...it will continue but just need a few days to work out the details. for those that put your name on the list...the list is still there.

for those that want to be added on to the list...stay tuned. should be all set by the end of the week and there will be an official thread in the GD section. once it's there you can add yourself to the GD.

thank you for your patience.
