That picture you sent is what I used to install. That AC pipe on the drivers is right in my way. Trust me, I technically inclined enough to know what and where things go. Also, no where in the instructions does it mention to reposition that little black circle thing on the drivers side next to the bolt.
Hey, it's a long shot... but i remember when i first installed mine i had it inverted (left bracket on the right, right bracket on the left) and had the same "hey, it doesn't fit!" problem.
Just trying to throw out some ideas
Btw, not sure about the pre-2k2's but isn't the AC line on the passenger side?
Also, what's the "little black circle"? I don't have a 2k1 though so i'm not sure if it's model year specific.

The AC pipe IS on the passenger side. I would literally have to drive the sucker through it. When I try to mount them on the other side, the holes dont line up. My theory is the mounts are backwards. If the handles mounted higher, it wouldnt need to go over the AC pipe.

Ken,
Today I received the front strut tower bar (FSTB) for my 2002 Nissan Maxima GLE. Thank you for the price and the excellent customer service. I do want to share with you my interesting experience with installing the FSTB.
First I went to a local auto parts store to buy a package of gaskets. I cut and trimmed two gaskets using the FSTB endplates as templates. I used these gaskets in-between the both endplates and strut housings in order to prevent the metal from scraping each other and ruining the paint. Secondly, I used Brasso, a metal polisher, to polish the aluminum strut bar. After the polishing, the bar looked fantastic.
As I am in the military, I went to the closest military auto hobby shop to do the install. I followed the instructions at http://www.rootaxs.com/max/fstbinstall/. After two + hours at the shop. Here is the final outcome.
Both endplates have holes which fit in such a way that, installed properly, the endplate “arms” are positioned towards the front of the car. To verify that the strut nuts were torqued to 34 ft-lbs by Nissan, I used a torque wrench to unscrew them; 34 ft-lbs is the correct setting. To properly position the bar equidistant from each strut tower, I had to turn each endscrew outward of the bar at least 14 turns. In order to make the bar fit across the intake manifold, I had to tilt the bar forward making the leading edge of the bar lower than the trailing edge. I could not position/fit the bar ½" over the intake manifold without having to make the bar “longer” instead of shorter. By making the bar longer, i.e. moving the endscrews outward of the bar, there is considerable pressure where the endscrews connect to the endplates. In the end, I had to make the bar longer in order to have the bar clear the intake manifold, just forward of it vice on top of it. In fact, I had to force the bar to “fit.” As such, if I want to remove the bar I will risk ruining the threads of at least one hex bolt as I have to hammer the bolt out just to remove it.
Moreover, since the endplate arm width is greater than the endscrew head, I had to add washers to this setup. At any rate, this was not an “easy” install.
The good news is the car handles great. Driving forward is not a problem. The intake manifold still hits the bar but only when I drive the car in reverse and only if I gun the engine. I am usually cautious about backing up so I just let engine creep do the job instead of my foot. I cannot wait to install the Addco rear sway bar however there might be problems with this install also. Thanks again and good luck with sales.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I ordered my FSTB from Ken last weekend and promptly recieved it on Thursday. The product looks awesome. Its great quality and I was very pleased. I haven't put it on yet but I have a 3rd Gen so I will let you know how it fits. Ken was very responsive to all my e-mails and is a totally trustworthy person to do business with. Thanks again Ken!

I have the courtesy fstb, but the driver side's nozzle is extremely weak. I'm thinking to change that before the winner come. Will it fit in 2k1 max and no nozzle problem?
I just got my fstb via FedEx and installed it. The bar looked great and installed in about 15 minutes. The bar works great my GLE handles like a totally different car, handles so much better. Thanks for the great deal Stealth Max. If you don't have one, buy one, its worth the $55.00.
