question regarding 5-speed I30s
question regarding 5-speed I30s
Greetings I30 owners. I have a question. As some of you may know, we 4th gen 5-speed owners have to deal the chance of getting a tranny that was assembled with the wrong parts (shims). How have you 5-speed owners faired? Has there been any issue similar to what we're experiencing?
I seem to have the bearing problem. I have the symptoms of leaking drive-axel seal(replaced twice and leaking again). I also get a high pitched wine in first, but a wine to some extent is normal in first and reverse. I don't have the wine in the rest of my gears yet which is a tell tale sighn of worn out bearings. There is only a handfull of 5-speed tranny owners and I don't know of any others with the problem

The reason I was asking was because I didn't know if more effort was put into assembling your trannys than ours. If so, when mine needs replacement, I'd replace it with an I30 tranny. But it looks like this problem is somewhat widespread. Thanks for your reply.

I have the whine sound in first and through second a little. But I don't have leaking drive seals. I know there is wear in my tranny compared to new, because my brother's 97 5-speed max has a new tranny and it is very quiet. But I am going to sit on it until more symptoms develop.

I wish they made my tranny better than a Max's.
