question on infiniti I30
question on infiniti I30
I am about to buy a 1999 Infiniti I30t and i have a few questions
1) What octane rating of fuel is required for this car
2) what is HID
3)does this car require alot of regular maintenance
4)does this car get good gas mileage
Have any of you ever tried the tornado fuel saver or zmax on this car?
does these products really work?

1. Octane rating as close to 93 as possible, or higher. Just use the highest possible rating, the engine runs high compression, I think 11:1 or so. The higher octane will keep the engine cooler and happier.
2. HID is High Intensity Discharge. It is a type of lighting system which emits highly focused light. Looks blueish, whiteish on the cars that have it.
3. The car requires normal maintenance, oil change every 3K miles, fuel, and regular washes will keep it lookin good. Nothin special, but consult the dealer for any scheduled maintenance.
4. This car gets good enough gas mileage. Its no Honda Insight, but expect around 25 mpg or so highway, and about 16mph city. Driver dependant, of course.
Lastly, NONE OF THOSE PRODUCTS WORK. The tornado is a crock, and the other stuff I wouldnt put too much stock into. Note for further questions: If its on late night TV, or seems too good to be true, it probably sucks.

We have a 10:1 compression ratio, so a higher octane is needed to prevent detonation. But we also have knock sensors, so you don't have to worry that a lower octane fuel will cause problems, just that the car will not run as strong as it should.
the 1996 Infiniti I30 has been rated the best in long term reliabiltiy in it's class. Better than any Honda or Toyota. Since the 99 uses the same platform expect the same reliabiltiy.
