OK, not to rain on anyones parade, but when I cleared out the corners on my I30 I thought it looked really wierd with out anything in it's place. The exposed bulb does not look right.
Mike i totally agree with you. Thats mainly why i still have my regular bulb in there, cause a colored one will stick out. The way the bulb is positioned looks kind of wierd also. Looking at it a couple feet away you cant see the clear bulb, where a colored one would stick out. I hear there are silver bulbs but when lit are colored. I might look into those or do what someone else did which was put a light coat of silver paint on it. We'll see what goes on.

Well, there we go again! };^) Where'd you get the silver bulbs that light up amber? (mine's an '02, so I might now use the same bulb # for front and/or rear) Do you do the same as 'kalbundy' - just take them off and use heat to separate the yellow part of the lense from the cover? (for the rear lamps)
Can anyone tell me for certain what the bulb # is for front and rear turn signals for the '02 model?

Don't you have the one-piece head lights? If so then you can't see the corner bulbs?

With every purchase, you get a pair of 194 bulbs too. They work great in the city lights. Again, white, not blue, not yellow.

Actually, a friend helped me on the tails. That's one MESSY job. We had this black goop all over us.
Question: I have an '02 I-35. My front blinkers are 1156 or 1157? How about the front parking lights and the rear blinkers? The only reason I ask is that I've noticed people selling an almost exact duplicate of the Philips SilverVision (? not certain that is the correct name, but the bulbs that are silver until lit, when they glow yellow) in Sylvania brand that are not "euro-fit" - i.e. don't have nibs at 10 & 2, have them at 9 & 3 like American standard would be. They are only about $10 per pair, and seem to be identical (any comments from those that have tried them?)...
I want to replace all three sets, and remove my orange front side inserts, so I'll have nothing but clear & silver when I'm done, but I'll still have amber blinkers and parking lights when they are lit.
One question: I don't see any details about 'baking' the lenses up front - I assume it's likely about 175 degrees for 10-15 minutes to loosen them up and then just break them out of there - correct? I do have the one-piece (I'm pretty sure from looking) lens - even though mine are OEM (jump right in and correct me if I'm wrong, please!).
How about the rear bulbs - I haven't gone into the trunk spelunking, but assume that like most vehicles they can be removed by just opening the trunk and moving the proper piece of felt insert and accessing the bulbs from the rear (or am I in for more fun than I think?).

- but on 'ebay' I found both 1157 and know I've seen the 1156 there as well. The ones they are selling are not Philips brand that have 9 & 12 pins instead of 10 & 2 o'clock euro-style bulbs, and they run $10-$12 per pair (using the "Buy it Now!" feature) plus shipping once you've found them. A whole lot cheaper than the $40/Canadian or 16# British + S&H I've heard people talk about for the Philips brand, and you don't have to mangle them with a Dremel to burn one of the pins off, either.
Frankly, no one has commented on the quality of them vs the Philips bulbs, so I'll have to get back to you once I've used them a while. I toasted my front lenses and snapped the orange part off the corners this past weekend, and put the 1157 silver bulbs in.
I should have had enough sense to check when I had those suckers pulled off but forgot in my zeal to get it all done: what bulb # goes into the parking light sockets? (I'm an '02 I-35)
Also - I didn't want to order any 1156's until I was certain I had that right for the specific ('02) model - are we on the same page?
If you can't find them, lemme know and I'll go ferret them out and give you a better hook!

You cleared your headlights? Congrats. I hope my instructions kind of helped you out. Also how hard did you find it to be? The bulbs in the parking lights are 194's.

Actually, the only hard part was figuring out that my head was dull and I shouldn't get touch them with my fingers! I don't bake my headlight covers that often };^) They came out pretty easily once I 'baked' them at 180 for about 10-12 minutes. I just used a cloth-covered large flat-head screwdriver and popped them loose off each of the three points on each side. The bulbs were easy and quick - just popped the OEM's out and put in the Silver w/amber glow jobbies I bought off 'ebay'.
194 - actually, I think I had seen that somewhere but just didn't remember for certain if that we 'me' (i.e. for the '02 model). Do you know if the 1156 bulb is correct for the rear turn signals on mine? (it sure looks like it is for a '96 model, but I haven't pulled them out and looked, yet.) One step at a time - obviously I'm going to go "full monty" but I'm taking my time. Will get the clear side markers next when I find out for certain if the ones I saw on "custommaxima.com" for $54 are 'right' for the I35 '02 model.

I found "Euroda racing sport 'Type R'" 30 watt silvered amber 1156 and 1157 bulbs at http://www.hidking.com/silverseries.htm for $9.99 + $5 shipping.
Changing the rear bulbs (on my '02, anyway) was a five-minute job - just reach in the trunk, pull down the felt a little and twist the OEM bulb and pull it out, twist the assembly to actually remove and bulb and reverse the procedure with the new (1156 in my case) bulbs. Total elapsed time was 5 or 6 minutes...
