How i cleared my headlights.

Ok guys. Sorry i havent put these up yet. Been busy with school and work. I hope these instructions make sence and if anything needs to be edited to be more clearer please let me know maybe we can get a nice draft and sticky it. (this is from an email i sent someone) I have a 2001 I30t with the zenon (HID) headlights. There is a difference in the orange piece in the halogen and zenon lights. Please if you do decide to do this becareful and take your time. Feel free to ask me any questions and i will try and respond as soon as i can. Do this are your own risk.

There are some instructions on the org that tell you how to open up the headlights. Also back in april i rear ended someone and at that time the body shop replaced both of my hid headlights and so one was in good shape and i asked them to give it to me and she did and i used that to sort of practice with so i can get an idea on how to do it when i do mine. Last saturday i finally had a couple hours free to do this so i went and undid the bolts on top and when i tried to pull it wouldnt come out. i spent an hour trying to figure out whats up and then found out theres a security bolt that i need to remove. To get to the security bolt i had to move my bumper. once i got it out i took it inside and there is one small screw on the outside end that you need to undo.then i used my hair dryer to heat up the edge where the plastic pievce was. Keep in mind my balast and hid bulb were still connected. I heated till i got it open enough to stick a screwdriver down in the opening to break the 3 places where the platic orange piece was connected and then used a needle nosed plier to pull it out. I used 3 flathead screwdrivers to pry the housing and lense apart while i heated. after i got the piece out i heated up the housing glue and pushed it back together and screwed the small screw back into place. Then put it back onto the car and put the 3 bolts in and the bumper and your all set.

Ok here goes.

Tools I used

1- Hairdryer
3- Flathead screwdrivers
1- socket set
1- Phillips Screwdriver

First I unbolted the 2 bolts on top of the HID units. You also will need to get to a bolt that is behind the front bumper. I went thru my wheelwell to get to the bolt. After these three bolts are out I then removed my high beam, parking light and turn signal bulb, also i disconnected the wire that goes to the balast.

Once i got it seperate from the car i took it inside my house to open it up. The whole time i left the HID bulb and balast as they were, i didnt touch them. There is a small screw on the outside edge that i had to first remove. I used the hairdryer to heat the edges of the lamp to warm up the glue/sealent . While heating i used a screwdriver to slowly pull the lense and housing apart. I kept on heating till i had enough of an opening and i stuck a long flat head down the opening and broke off the three places where the orange plastic contacts the lense. If you were to fully remove the lense from the housing then you'll see that its attathed to the lense.

Once you have the orange piece removed you simply put everything back together. Reheat the sealent so you can slip the lense back on and also be sure to apply some sealent to be safe of any future condensation.

This is what the finished product will look like.

Excellent write up. good pics. So, this can be used for any 2nd gen I30/35 or just the 02+ with HID?

I think my grill might have you confused, but it will work with any 2000+ with hids for sure. I have a 2001 I30t. It might kind of be the same for a 2000-2001 without hids. Just open it up and see how they can get the orange dome off.
