In case you hadn't checked them out before, check out SLCi30t's calipers. He painted them and then put stickers on them and painted them again so when he removed the stickers, the calipers are red and it says infiniti in silver. www.cardomain.com/id/slci30t

It's fairly easy just a little time consuming. I left the caliper on the car and just used a whole lot of masking tape and newspaper to cover anything I did not want paited.
Make sure and clean the caliper first with brake cleaner, and use 7-10 light coats of high temp paint. I also did two layers of clear coat as well.
Mine are black.

Do you guys use high heat spray paint or brush on? I heard brush on lasts longer any ideas? When I do my brakes next I'm painting the calipers.

Yep thats what I did too. Went to autozone and got some high heat paint

$6 2 cans
$3 Clear coat
$1 Masking Tape
$.50 Newspaper
Painting your own calipers and making them look just as good as using $40 folitec paint... Priceless!

just dont spray brakleen on them if you go that route, it will melt off like nothing.

Do you mean if you spray brake cleaner afterwards or before? I can't see how brake cleaner would be bad for prepping?

i assume he means after, brake cleaner is definately need before. The first time I painted mine I forgott to clean one of the calipers before painting and that caliper was the only one to start losing paint.

after you spray them. not shure what brand you used but my experience with dupli-color hi temp engine paint is that stuff will come right off with the touch of brakleen. better let your mechanic(or yourself) know not to use it if he works on your brakes.

No, No, No. Just black.
I made the mistake of painting them a bright color that would be noticed. It was the worst thing in the world. You don't want to draw attention to your calipers when you have such nice wheels. Just do them black so they don't take away from the wheels. It would really be an eye soar with red calipers.
Mine are black now.

:thread digging:

I've had caliper paint sitting in my basement for a while now. I've just been contemplating about some potential problems.
1. Can I put the rims back on right after I paint them? I know I can't drive the car for a day or so, but I don't see anything wrong with putting the rims back on.
2. Will silver paint stick out too much? My car is silver, so I figure it would go well with it. Any comments?

The "best way" to paint the caliper would be to take it off, but you can get almost as good results by leaving it on and using tape and newspaper.

The spark plug cover is held on by 4 or 5 hex bolts, it's simple to remove. I painted mine black.

maxrider: yes, you can put the wheels back on. If you wheels rub against your caliper then you have more problems then the paint comming off.

I drove my car 4 or 5 hours after painting them, which may have been a mistake becaue I have gotten a little bit of flaking. I think the paint needs more time to dry before being heated up like that. 24 hours should be good.

I helped my brother paint his calipers for his Mazda RX-7. We used a kit that cost almost around $50 and had a two-part paint set. I tell you what...that stuff is awesome! You mix the paint with the included hardener and brush it on. The paint is self-leveling so it looks really nice when it dries, which happens pretty fast. The paint is tough as hell too. We put some of the left-over on a C-clamp and sort of tested it by dropping the clamp and lightly abusing it and that paint never chipped or anything. It makes like a hard shell. I just ordered a kit of silver for my calipers from Eastwood Co. They sell the kit for $40.
