Stillen Intake Installed - 2002 I35

Hello everyone, I am new to this board and probably will be needing lots of help from you guys down the road. Here is a small introduction, Dad picked up his 2002 I35 about 10 months ago. So far, we have added the Stillen intake.

Here are my comments on the stillen Intake.

-installation is straight up.
-parts quality is good
-Throttle response is much better.
-sound of the intake is quiet on normal cruise but if you gun it a little or floor it, it can get pretty loud and mean, actually... very loud and mean.

here are some pics.

Exhaust is up next, but I will prbably hold off on that until after Thanksgiving. Powertech, Magnaflow...etc.? Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for reading ~~!

Thanks man. after checking out most of the sound clips on the forum I believe I am gonna go with the Magnaflow 14816, hopefully the sound will be deep combining with the Stillen intake.

The muffler is not going to make the car faster, just louder. Adding a Y-pipe will give significant power gains while not creating much noise. There will be an added gurgle to the exhaust tone, but it is hardly noitceable. I have heard many different cat-backs on maximas and I30s and never really like any of them. Some are better than others, but they all sound pretty bad IMO

if it adds performance, I will definitely check it out. do you know which will fit on the 2002 I35? I also want a louder muffler. But I guess powertech, magnaflow...maybe way loud. I also don't want to sound like a mustang

hahaha...don't worry your car won't sound like a mustang. I believe a 2k2-2k3 maxima y-pipe will fit. If any I35 owner knows somthing I don't about y-pipe fitment feel free to correct me. Do a search on Y-pipes, you will get more information then you could read in one day.

Mike, As a resident expert on this subject, what is your opinion on the best y-pipe for the i30? I've found several y-pipe & catback combo's mentioned in the Max forums but, like the previous poster, I'm not looking for a rumbler. That's not to say that I have anything against the Mustang rumble... Seeing as though I have one resting in the garage. I gotta say though, since I bought the i30, the cobra hasn't seen a lot of pavement. This car is just such a pleasure to drive! This car has such sleeper potential it isn't funny.

I have nothing against the exhaust tone of a larger displacement car, I actually like it alot and it is about the only exhaust tone that sounds good. Aftermarket exhuast on smaller displacement engines just does not sound good to me.

I think all the Y-pipes that are available are good choices. Early on a few companies had problems like bad flex sections, bees in the can sound, and some were 2 piece constructions. Most problems have been taken care of in the recent years. The only major choice that I see is what kind of steel to go with, if it's mandrel bent or not and the money you want to spend. We now have the option to get headers tht include the Y-pipe as well. I also believe the company you choose is important. I have had bad a expierence with certin aftermarket exhaust companies. Not the product but the customer service and how they treat and communicate with the customer. I have a budget Y-pipe myself becuase of the great bang for the buck it offers.

I agree, the I30 is a good sleeper. That is why I mod mine.

The sound of V-8 cars are nice and meant to be. I have no problem with it and I love it when they speed by..sounding solid and agressive. But if the I35 sounds like one, I just can't handle it. then again, its just my taste

question

sanf38, just curious. Is that the 2002-2003 maxima intake from stillen? If so, do you notice any significant increases than normal?

I'm new to the I30, so I don't have anything to offer as far as advice on your exhaust, but I wanted to comment on the MB that's next to your I35 in the first picture. Is that a C36?

attomica - nah.. it's just my 2000 C230 Kompressor. here are the mods on it. 18x8 AMG monoblocks, H&R spring + bilstein shocks, supersprint exhaust + resonator, reiger roof spoiler. Those are the mods you can see in the picture.

gqmac2 - yes, stillen intake. I can definitely feel the engine breathing much better, and throttle response is a plus. It pulls much smoother.

I've ordered the Magnaflow muffler 14816 for the I35 and it's on the way !~!~! I can't way.

i dunno.. i personally dont think i'd like my i35 to make a lot of sound like an intake makes.. i mean ya sure it sounds mean, but hte i35 is a luxery car, its already fast, and the intake sound can attract cops if you gun it. but hey... this is just my personal opinion...

Will those tips fit in your bumper cut out? It might look a little odd it they don't.

I just bought a 2000 I30 and some questions about exhausts.

I dont like the stock exhaust tips (or lack there of) on my car. I was looking, and on the 2000 there dosn't seem to be a bumper cutout for some tips. Dose anyone here have an aftermarket exhaust on their 2000 I30? I would love to see a pic of your tips or hear the tone.

I HATE boomy exhausts, but I love something a little more agressive. I have been looking at Cattman, at least for the Y pipe, and wanted some opinions about sound, performance and quality of various exhausts. Earlier in this thread I heard about a section of the site with sound clips and would love to hear them if I could find them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Magnaflow SS 14816 installed

here is the sound clip, I have no idea what happened to the 1st two sec. but the rest is sounding pretty clear. I replaced back the OEM intake, the sound that you hear is straight up muffler changed and nothing else. I will run another clip later with the Stillen intake tomorrow.

http://home.comcast.net/~sanf38/wsb/media/MVI_5055.AVI

Here are my comments on the Magnaflow:
-It gives a deep and solid sound at low rpm
-The exhaust note fades away after passing 3k rpm.
-It could be a little too loud for some even at cruising speed on the highway, but you can play with the sound.

To wrap it up, I like it very much. It gives an aggressive exhaust sound but at the sametime, the I35 remains very classy with sportier looks. I will post some pics tomorrow.

i sound not that loud....they have some noise to them....ive heard mangaflows on a few cars.....i think they make about the right tone for most exhausts....dynomax mufflers are about the quietest mufflers ive heard around....but id go for a mangnaflow myself......b/c im more tolerent for sound.....my old 94 T-bird V8 had 3 mufflers stock i took 2 off...it droned crazy but i loved it

Guys, I have the Same Car as This guys Infinity...
ALL same, except that is called maxima

I read throught the rules and regulations, It says that all the performance upgrades of the US maxima will fit the infinity, the same as my maxima... I just wanted to make sure, that it's that way...

Will all the performance FIT on my Maxima (this guys infinity) ?

thanks

P.S. all same, except engine 3.0
body, 1:1

I doubt if the I35 (3.5L) mods will fit your car, but all engine mods from a 2000-2002 I30 (3.0L) should fit.

Correct me if I am wrong guys. I am pretty new to the I30, and Nissan for that matter, but I have found a few places for Mods. The stuff I am looking in to is from Cattman and Stillen. I am staying with intake, exhaust, and suspension for the near future.

Hope this helps.

www.cattman.com

www.stillen.com

The Only thing I could see as being different are maybe some body pieces on your car the engine should be the exact same.

You may want to watch out for mufflers with your bumper being different but I imagine the y-pipe, (where you will get the most gains as I understand it) would be the same.

Can anyone else out there back up my thoughts?

I would not get that muffler for a few reasons. For one, I bet the tips will be way to big for the bumper cut out and it will look really odd. With many of the universal mufflers you never know what kinda sound your going to get. I would stick with a true oval design muffler or a complete cat-back.

For the intake i would suggest JWT over Stillen simply because JWT makes the intakes FOR Stillen and Stillen marks up the product further. If you want JWT just mail me or PM me on that because i can get them for $99 each
