Interest Thread: A33 LCD TV monitor Pod

Hello everyone,

I've been speaking with MaxMojo lately about a good OEM-looking solution for a LCD TV monitor for us A33 guys. I know many of us have wanted to install something similar to what the Navigation system uses with the screen above the clock on the center of the dash.

Well, MaxMojo showed me something that's very similar. It does not pop up or fold away, but it's a molded pod that houses a 7" LCD screen that fits flush in the panel above the clock for us A33's. It looks OEM, so theft shouldn't be an issue, and the estimated price is VERY reasonable.

I have attached a picture of what it should look like in the dash (I think it should be at the bottom of this post).

Price is estimated to be $250 shipped. This is not a guarantee, but those of you who have dealt with Max in the past on things like this (m3 lip spoilers, clear lenses) know that he typically delivers at estimate or below.

NOW - the "catch." Since this LCD monitor pod is made for Cefiros, we will need a new center trim panel.

Why?

Well A33 Cefiros have a pocket with a cover in their center panel above the clock, those of us in the US do NOT. It appears as though this pod sits INSIDE that pocket (the one we don't have). Most likely, in order for us to use this pod, we will need the Cefiro center panel with that pocket. MaxMojo is looking into sourcing these as well, so for the moment, the final price (panel + LCD pod) is not set.

We are hoping to get a minimum of 10 orders. This will be a one-time deal, and will NOT be offered again. Please post here if you are interested.

Thanks!

John

Great to hear! I was afraid no one would step up.

As for the front lip spoilers...if you want the style that I have, you need to contact Luke, a member here that goes by the name of "LP." He helped me get mine a long while back, and a few others have done so as well since then.

It does not fold down? I dont know how I feel about that sticking up all the time. Looks like it fits nicely.

I am interested in that wood dash though. Is that from the Cefiro (or however you spell that)? I wonder if there is a way to import that. I love the color.

BTW, I think I may have that pocket of which you speak. Do you not have that little compartment where the Nav should be? I have seen some I30 without it.

No, the screen does not fold down, but taking into account how low and sloping our dash is, plus the fact the screen is at an angle, I doubt it will be that annoying.

I don't know anything about the wood dash. There are wood dash kits you can get though here in the states.

Do you have the pocket with the lid on it? It would be where the screen and pod is in the picture. I've never seen any a33's in the states that have it. Only overseas cars.

Something I forgot to mention (or perhaps didn't make clear in the first post):

The pod INCLUDES a 7" color LCD screen. Seeing as some 7" screens alone cost $250, I think $250 for the screen AND pod is VERY reasonable.

Yup. Ive got the pocket with the lid. Same spot, same shape. Hmm. I wonder why I have one... Intriguing

Well now I have a problem. I already have the perfect spot for the screen, but Im not sure if I want it. For $250 maybe I should just get one for the hell of it.

About the wood dash. I dont really like any of the kits I have seen. The color and fit of the dash in the pic is great. I must have it! Lol

Good I assume. I don't know the specs, but if you go to the company's website:

http://www.asiasonic.com.tw you'll see that LCD screens are pretty much what they specialize in.

Matter of fact I have that door also on my I30 on the top of my dash. I guess Infiniti wanted to give those that didn't opt for the navi an extra door. Do you have any idea how the monitor would interface with the factory radio?

Oh yeah by the way LP if your out there I'm very interested in doing buisness with you. And with these new I30 owners on the board, I don't think I'm the only one.

I wish mine had come with that too. Oh well, looks like I can order that panel if need be from the states, so it won't be an issue.

Interfacing with the factory radio can be done through FM modulation. Those of you with aftermarket HU's can take advantage of your Aux input.

And those of you who want to talk to Luke - email or PM him. His name here is "LP"

Removal shouldn't be hard at all. If you've ever taken the headunit out, you'll know what I mean. Basically it consists of popping the vent assembly above the radio out (easy), and if memory serves me correctly, there are screws or clips for that panel there (in addition to the HU screws that are there).

Once you get the final price for the lcd, pod and pocket piece, i will let you know if i will be purchasing one. As of now, i'm 80% sure i'm in.

On a side note, has anyone priced out the mechanical parts to get the OEM popup lcd? I woudl think we would only need the mechanical partts and we would be able to find an lcd that fit it, or we could rig something up.

I'm trying to get a final price now. I've done some researching, and it seems as though 2000 I30's have the center panel with the pocket. HOwever, it seems as though 2001-2004 do NOT.

I've been dealing with Joe at Infinitipartsusa.com and it seems as though we can get that center panel with the pocket (those of us who need it) for approximately $70. Still trying to finalize the price on that too.

As for using the NAV display unit, I have priced it, and haven't been able to find it priced for less than ~$1900. Ouch.

So, the 'definite' list right now is as follows:

1. MetaOrbit
2. WCUgrad03
3. renjumathew

Another concern is the wiring. Arguably if I did this I would want to hook up a tv tuner and dvd player in the glove box. How will the audio compatability issues be addressed? How will the lcd connect to the factory systems?

Well, it's going to have video inputs so you can run the video output from the tuner and/or dvd player into the screen. That's all you really need to worry about with regards to the screen.

Now for the audio - you'll either need to use FM modulation to play the sound through the speakers, or if you have an aftermarket cd player with an auxillary input, you can run the audio through that.

I definitely dont have anything aftermarket. I was very close to doing an indash 10" touch screen navi/dvd, but I didnt feel like spending the dough for the specialty shop to do it.

Ive been thinking about the same in dash tuoch screen set up. I like it because it cuts down on the clutter of having all the different components in the dash. Do you know what is needed to run the touch screen? Do you have to buy a mobile computer and run the Nav, DVD and CD through it?

I love taking threads off topic. Sorry guys

My first time seeing this...man do I feel out of the loop!! Anyway...I have just a few questions Meta:

The LCD screen has how many aux inputs? In other words if I run aftermarket Nav and DVD (w/ sound) does the screen have the capibility to hook up to both sources?

Are there any modifications needed other than the dash kit?

When are we looking at these being available?

That's all I need to know.....but I am DEFINITELY interested. I also looked at the touchscreen in dash option (from Pioneer). But, at $250, for a "stock" look....CAN'T BEAT IT!!

I never got far enough to decide how I was going to run it. It would have definitely had nav, dvd, and tv tuner. So probably a cpu to handle it all.

The screen does not have speakers, thus you don't need to worry about sound when it comes to the screen. You need to worry about getting the sound from your DVD player or game system to your car's speakers, which, as I'd mentioned before, you can do using FM modulation, or the auxillary input on an aftermarket HU.

As for if you wanted to use more than one video source with the screen - it's very possible. You would need to get a y-cable splitter or a switchbox. They're pretty common things in A/V. Car & Home.

If you already have the center panel with pocket, there should be no further modifications you need to make to the dash. I don't have one in my hands, but there shouldn't be any.

Availability will be a function of how fast we can get everyone on board.

And yes, $250 for the pod and LCD should be a steal. I'll add your name to list - let me know if you'd prefer to be removed.

Yellowzxtt, I only have one picture of the pod for the A33, but I can find the site for all the other pods they make for other cars if you like. For now I'll add your name to the list.

The list right now is as follows:

1. MetaOrbit
2. WCUgrad03
3. renjumathew
4. I30 Boogie
5. yellowzxtt

And as for whether it would fit a Maxima...

It *might*, but I think you'd end up having to buy a lot of trim pieces in order to make it work. As far as I can figure, you'd have to buy the infiniti upper vent assembly, center dash panel, and analog clock. You might need some other parts, but that's my best guess.

OK Folks - Deadline to get in on this is Wednesday February 4th!

At that point we'll start taking deposits, and place the group order.

I would be intersted in getting in on this group buy. However, I do have a 2001 and no pocket in my center panel. Are you still looking into a deal for those who need this piece?

The deadline was today but I will be extending it as I have to address the color of the piece. The manufacturer did not specify and I will double check with them. Let's extend the deadline until Sunday so I have plenty of time to communicate with them.

This deal is not going to happen. They only have one color and paint to match other colors. The way I was going to order for this GD, I would not be able to specify colors.

Sorry guys.
