Just wanted to say. Just got a 96 I30 5spd with 96k miles. Picked it up last wednesday. Thursday night some lady backed into my rear door so already had to change that. Anything I should watch for on this car? Suggestions? Thanks.

This car feels great. Not as fast as my previous car (94 caprice with LT1) but a lot better feel of the road and a lot better gas mileage.

Do you have any maintenance records? Have all the filters been changed (oil, air, fuel)? What about the spark plugs? Just a few things to think about...

Speaking of your accident, just make sure that your "new" door works. The locks, windows, and things like that. The rest of your car should be okay.

 

well read my safety thread below. mines an automatic but thats the only diff. its about the brakes. and urs only has like 10k more miles, so i would get em checked, just read the thread it'll explain it all

 

the differential bearings on the 5spd tend to crap out fairly early. You got to crack opent the tranny to fix it. Not a cheap affair.

 

i was gonna change all the filters and drain all the fluids asap; i like to do that whenever i (or my family) get a used car. the door works. i took everything off the old door and put it on the new door. I got only the door shell and trim. Everything else is from the old door, window motor, door lock actuator, windows, interior, even all the bolts. thanks for the heads up about the brakes; just changed the brakes saturday and everything looked ok but i'll take another look just to be sure. how much in parts if the differential bearing goes? if the brakes? i do all the work on my cars myself, save a lot of money that way.

To replace differential bearings it will cost ya a few hundred at least....that is if you do all the labor and do not have to buy any tools. It's not an easy job, I do all the work on my own car but the differential bearings were one thing I could not tackle. For a good write up on a DIY method check www.motorvate.ca

 

Seems like a good weekend job. I'll probably do that soon as i finish school and june that way i have enough time. Thanks for the advice.
DO you guys know where I can get a Haynes manual for this car? The only one i've seen is one for a 93-01 maxima. Also where can i get the FSM from?

like I said, just get the haynes for the maxima. They don't make one for the I30 and the maxima is the exact same.

 

ok isee. but do they make one specifically for the 4th gen (95-99) because the only one autozone has is 93-01. i just would like to know if there is one specifically for 4th gen. also, any idea where to get the FSM from? i know it's not cheap but i've found them to be very useful

The 93-01 has all the info you need. That is the one I use and have not had any problems with lack of information.
