03 I35 Fog Lights
03 I35 Fog Lights
What kind of bulbs do I need to replace the factory bulbs. I thought it was a H3 55W, but it is not. I have the part number, 26293-89902, but no type. I got this info from the dealer, but he could not tell me the type of bulb, just the part number. I have searched several sites, bot no one lists a bub for the 2003 I35. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks, Leslie
I beleive it should be the same as all the rest of the A33s. I have a 2k I30 and I am pretty sure that they are H3- Ill find out today when I try to install my PIAA Ion crystals-. The dealer probably couldent tell you becaues he wants to charge you $20 a bulb for the same thing you could get for $5 at an auto parts store.
I guess the only way to find out is to remove what is in there. Ill be doing that tonight, so ill let you know what mine is. I can almost guaranee you have the same blub as me.

I took my car to the dealer, Nissan not Infiniti, for an oil change and the bulb is the same but the metal surround for the bulb is different. Like for the H3 it has a circular U shaped notch cut out for the bulb to fit, and the one that is in there has a \_/ shaped notch. I did not get to see the bulb in person. This is just what the mechanic told me. He also said that the clip that holds the bulb in place will not close with the H3 bulb that I have. Thanks for your help. Les
I just looked at the bulb and it has the U shape notch on one side and the \_/ on the other. It is more like a \___/ shape. I will try the swap sometime on my own if I don't hear back from you sooner. Is there any way that you can take a pictre the the bulb you remove tonight? Thanks again, Les
Well ****,
Ive got H3 Ion Crystals that are probably on by doorstep right now. I guess I will get back to you tomorrow as to how I make out.
I could very easily take a picture of the bulb, but Im not sure how to post it. I think you have to have a webpage to link to, which I dont. Any suggestions anybody? Anyway, I can tell you forsure if it is an H3 tomorrow.

Insert foot into mouth!
I dont know what the hell kind of bulb we have. It seems to be some sort of modified H3. The stock bulbs and the PIAA H3's I bought are the EXACT same with two exceptions.
On the bulb bracket (H3) there are two cutouts, one circular and one square. On the stock bulb the square cutout is about a millimeter wider than on a regular H3.
The other difference is that the stock bulbs are 35w while the H3 is 55w.
I went ahead and used a dremel to make the PIAA cutout wider and installed them (A perfect fit).
Anyone think I should be woried about ruining my stock harness since I am using a 55w bulb?
Any input?

When I purchased my 01 I30, I noticed the fog lights were pretty weak. I also noticed that the fog light bulb type wasn't listed in the manual. So I took the bulbs out and found that they were a 35 watt H3.
I had a spare 55 watt OEM H3 bulb from my old 99 I30 and tried to fit that and it wouldn't. Just like you guys mentioned the notches were slightly different. The 55 watts were smaller and not as wide as the 35 watt, but the difference wasn't enough that any file couldn't fix!
Now the fog lights are brighter. I worried of melting or overheating something, but so far so good after one month.
I also recommend trimming a notch (not completely) on a higher output, clear 9005 bulb (Philips Hi-Visibility or Osram Silverstar) and using it for your low beams. Remember to re-aim the lights!

NewLoveI30, I am going to send the pics to the guys at Susquehanna Motorsports and see what they have to say. Link is www.susquehanna.com/susq
Link to a bulb finder for autos http://www.sylvania.com/auto/carapp/
This is what the guy at Susquehanna Motorsports had to say. After reading that I am going to try the install on my own so I can see exactly why it would not fit. I hope this information has been useful to others as well. Les
"The only bulb that has a wire attached to it is the H3. The H3 standard defines the physical envelope of the bulb, the dimensions of the mount, the location of the filament and other standards. There may be some variation between bulbs, but not enough for them not to fit into the lamp.
The 2003 Nissan Maxima uses the H3 in its fog lamps."
