I didn't know anything about GPS and navigation until now. I found out that the navi in our cars is CD based, NOT DVD based. This means that the people with DVD based (FX, G35, 350z) need only one disc for the whole country, while our cars with the outdated system need 9 different discs, not even including Canada. Also, they are charging $120 for every additional disc. What kind of BULL is that!?!? Now the dealer is telling us that its our fault and we have to pay extra for the CDs just for upstate NY. They never told us that the I35 wasn't DVD based, which was the least they could do; I mean my father has been buying/leasing Infiniti's from the same dealer for over 10 years.

Is there any way to convert it to DVD based?

I found your post interesting so I did some quick research. Sure enough, even the ’04 I35’s still have the CD-based navigation system. But the ’04 Maximas are DVD-based. I suspect it’s because the I35 is based on the older 5th generation Maxima, which were also CD-based.

I guess you’ll have to get an ’04 Maxima or any of the other Infiniti models you mentioned.
