Plz help ... problem with pickup speed
Hi all,
I need help to determine what corrective action is to be taken for this problem that I have with my 98 I30 with 99k miles (bought with 96k miles, don't know the maintenance history!).
Description: The auto transmission works just fine when starting from idle, and the transition is smooth and shifts to higher gear as the speed increases. But, on the reverse, I don't see it clearly coming into lower gear (say 2nd if my speed drops to around 30mph) but seems to stay in 4th even when the speed goes down to around 25~30 mph. This is very annoying especially when I am pushing around in a freeway traffic jam where I need the vehicle to accelerate after braking to around 20~25 mph. It needs me to push the gas pedal all the way down and then it takes maybe 10 seconds to rev up. This is not good :-(
Is this an indication that I should get the transmission service done ?!? I replaced the air filter ten days ago. I posted few weeks ago if it has got sthg to do with the Throttle Position sensor but alas there were no replies. Or is it time to replace spark plugs. Or all of these, or none or sthg else ?!? My friend's guess is that transmission flush will help albeit a costly service.
TIA.
