Yellowing Headlamps How do I clean them up?

Does anyone know of a way to clean your factory headlamps, or any headlamps for that matter where it will get rid of that yellowish tint that seems to appear of older headlamps?

I saw a product that claimed to be for this, but have not been able to find it lately.

I would like my headlamps to look white or clear plastic looking instead of the yellow tint that the years have put on them.

Thanks.

Yellow Headlights No More

This weekend I polished the headlights on my 97 I30. The yellow tint was really bothering me. After reading this post I did some research on different forums and some suggested using Mothers Aluminum polish. It took about 3 applications and buffing, but the results were great. Does anyone know what causes the yellowing..sunlight, chemicals, oxidation?

Cool! I will try that this weekend with the Mothers Aluminum Polish. Did you use a power buffer or did you do it by hand? if you have pictures of how they turned out I would love to see them.

Thanks again.

Here are some sites where I found products that may or may not work. Check them out.

I think that yellow tint on the 96-97s were like that from the factory. Before I got the one piece headlights, I installed the 98-99 headlights which were a direct fit and really improved the appearance of the car!! But if that polish works just as good then keep the old ones.

I bought that same stuff from http://www.properautocare.com/plaslenclean.html and it worked pretty good. It took off the cloudy stuff on the headlight and made it clear again. Any plastic polish will work though. You can go to PepBoys and they have plastic polish that does the same thign for cheaper.
The yellowing color on the lens is from UV rays and that is permenent. You will have to buy new ones and spray UV protectant everytime you wash your car to prevent it from coming back.
