Switching Radios

Can anybody help me out with this? I'm switching my stock Bose to a Single Din, which I'm goin to put into the draw space. That isn't the problem however. The problem is that the Bose has 2 white plugs with wires and the new headunit only has 1 slot for the plug. Also, the the wires for the new headunit are different colors than the ones from the car. Another thing is that the Bose has I guess an antenna and a ground wire, but my new headunit only has the antenna and it has 1 prong, not 2 like the Bose. Another thing I know is that the Bose supposedly has an amp inside of it or suttin and if you rewire it a certain way it will double the bass and make it sound sh*tty or suttin. Somebody told me about gettin a/or some "T-Taps" but I don't really have a clue on what they would do or how they would work. So if anybody could help me out I would appreciate it alot.

PS: I'd rather do this myself than somebody else, and if it is somebody else I want it to be a friend or even if it's somebody in the area and I'll toss you some cash. I just don't feel like paying a shop for this sh*t at all. Thanks.

I had a shop switch out my Bose and put in the Xm/CD player Alpine. Each speaker in your car has an amp on it, I don't think the radio itself has an amp. When they switched out my factory and put in the aftermarket stereo headunit, they rewired each speaker to bypass each speaker amp because the headunit was more power than each speaker amp was.

I have also run into a guy who had the aftermarket headunit hooked up through each speaker am but then it bypasses the amp in your aftermarket radio and messes with your volume control a little as well as the fade to front and back speakers. But it you dont use the fade then it wont be a problem.

Sorry I can't help you more than this, but I hope this gives you a better idea of what your options are?

Let us know what happens.

you have to by pass the amps and do a complete rewire of you system through an external amp to use the bose speakers.

Thanks alot for your inputs. I appreciate it. I'm gonna do what you had done Dr.Monkey and if for some reason it doesnt sound right or good for me, then I'll just get a new set of speakers. Hopefully mine will turn out fine like yours. I should be doing it this weekend with my friend. Thanks again.

No problem. Glad I could help. The nice thing about going to CircuitCity and having them do it is they will put your factory radio back in and tak out your aftermarket one when you go to sell for free! Basically they put it back to factory or stock for free when they install. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck. I think mine sounds great especially now that I added a 10in Kicker SoloBarric for base. Me likey!

Well, between the Board being down and me being very busy lately, I finally got to come on and post about it. Well, I installed it myself, however I didn't take the time to bypass each speaker amp. I WILL do it this weekend though. Anyway, what I noticed first hand, is that the quality of the sound is the same. So, for all those who said you would hear crackling and engine noise from the speakers in the FAQs saying that it's impossible to just change the headunit without changing the whole system, WTF are you talking about? You're wrong. However, the loudness of the music is definately missing. It doesn't get as loud as it did with the stock Bose Headunit and that right there must be because I didn't bypass each amp in the speakers. I do use fade, but just like you said..I tried to set it at like - 2 Rear and it's not good at all. It's too low, still clear though, just not loud. So for now I keep it balanced until this weekend when me and my friend will fix this ordeal. Oh yeah, I also have pics which I'll try and get up within the next couple days or so.

PS: Ay Doc just curious, where in your trunk did you mount your Kicker?

I actually put the sealed Kicker box in the rear of the trunk to the right side (if you are looking into the trunk from behind the car.) I had to set the box flat instead of on its side with the speaker facin across the trunk. The speaker is faxing upwards. I wanted to place it in the back left corener on its side with the speaker facing across the trunk to save space, but the box is about .5in too wide and the arm of the trunk hit it.

I hope that answered your question? It sounds like your instalation went great! Congrats! If I can help you with anything else please don't hesitate to ask. Have a great day!
