What can I do the the I30 power wise???????? new here

Hi

I am thinking of getting a I30 as an everyday car to use. I own a BMW m3 that I use to have fun in. I also would like to have a car that is somewhat big to fit people in and to have fun when driving home once in a while. I drove in one of my friend 1997 I30t and was amazed that how smooth it drove. This is what led me to this car. I am also thinking of an Acura RL but the only thing is it doesn't have alot of power and there are NO mods that you can do to the car other than rims. This why I am leaning more towards the I30 there are so many things that I can do to the car to make it fast and to make it look good. I do know somewhat a good amount of car info, but the only cars that I am familiar with the technology is Hondas and BMWs. I have a few questions to ask and was wondering if anyone knew the answers.

The infiniti I30 I am thinking of getting is a 1996 with an auto trans

1) What are the best power upgrades for the car? I know of the:
Cattman: Y-pipe
Headers
B-pipe
Jim Wolf: Ecu upgrade
Cams
Pop Intake
Auto trans computer upgrade
Which of this upgrades are worth getting? Any thing else?

2) What is the most power I can get with the mods on the car.

3) What is the variable intake for the I30's? How does it work? How does it make power? How would you install it? I read some info on this and would like to get more detailed info.

4) I know the I30's and maxima's have the same interior and mechanical parts and the body is not the same but can lip spoilers be fitted onto the I30 front and rear bumpers?

5) What does the 1996 I30 with auto run 0-60 and 1/4 stock? What do think it would run with mods? I really am hoping I can get this car to do like 14.0 to 14.5 in the 1/4

Also I know that I could do the search option but everytime I do it I get an error message saying I am not allowed to search. Plus I would like to hear from the poeple on this forum and get to know some of you.

It's gonna take some work to get an auto into the mid or low 14's. Probably a few thousand dollars. A stock auto is usually a high 15 sec car, some have seen mid 15's but not most.

I am not going to go into detail on all the questions you have asked since they are all anwserd in the 4th gen stickies. I will say that a proven NA set up is the Y-pipe, MEVI, and JWT-ECU. But that still won't get you low 14's in an auto.

I suggest reading the stickies and checking back here or the 4th gen forum for more detailed questions.

The search function is not available to nondonationg members at the moment.....and no, donations are not being accepted. But we are going through major changes at the moment so I hope that will change.

Welcome and happy modding.

I've been debating this myself. I can either keep my car or try to make it faster.

If I buy a new car it will probably be the G35 coupe. At $35,000 roughly

If I keep my car (It's worth maybe $9000 now) and put in about $4000, it should be fun enough to drive until the G35 coupes can be bought used for like $12Gs.

So by paying $4000 now. I save $24,000 in the long run. Therefore I am going for the stillen supercharger once I get my hands on some cash and we all should do as well. Because buying a Stillen Supercharger can save you $20,000. My gift to you all!

Confused? Haha

Me too!

I guess that is one way to look at it.

Thanks for the reply, What about those auto trans ecu that cattman sells to rework the shift points of the trans? Maybe with a better torque convert.? Any luck with better acc. times?

P.S - I did read about the Mevi in the other trends, Where is a safe place that you can you get this because I saw that there was a guy that ran with some people's money from this forum selling this kit.

Also is it hard to install the Mevi?

I don't have an automatic so I have no expierence with the mod and have not had the need to look into what it exactly does. A couple of guys have had custom made high stall torque converters made for their cars with good results.

IMO, the best way to get one these days is to find a used one in the for sale section. I think there is a group deal going on, but I have never heard of the guy heading it so it may not be a safe bet.

As far as the install goes, it's really straight forward in regards to just swaping the manifolds. Where things get a bit tricky is getting all the wiring correct, but that is not a huge problem either.

So you think any speed could in install the Mevi on the car.

I am going to look into the torque convertor, I wouldn't mind getting the the 14.5 in the 1/4, I just want to mod it enough to where I will be able to out run most cars on the road. Most cars now and days are running 15 sec flat so anything below that would be good.

Thanks for all the info.

Is there anything else that the I30 can gain from aftermarket partsand it doesn't aready have. Like better breaking, and handling? I prob won't do anything to the suspension because it rides so smooth and I do want to ruin that.

converting it to a manual tranny is probably your best place to start if you want speed....and got money to play with.

Its not as expensive as I thought. Changing an auto to a 5 speed. Especially in places where they have a lot of salvage cars for sale. I want to get a salvage maxima 5 speed. Like many of my projects I doubt this will ever be done. Its good to dream though.

Does anyone know about the fitment of a 3.5 motor and tranny combo into the 4th gen I30/Maxima?

I'm sure its been brought up before

Won't fit. Edit: one guy in the 4th gen forum is trying it, but it is a huge undertaking, and not as cost-effective as a SC or turbo setup.

yea I won't be converting it becuase it is my second everyday car, I like the auto when driving in the city, much easier and less of a PITA

I will probally do the intake, ecu, Mevi, Cattman header or budget y-pipe, race cat, a bpipe, a performance torque converter, maybe that cattman trans ecu and maybe the JW cams if it doesn't cost too much. Body wise I think I am going to put on the led turn mirrors ( first thing I am doing ) the inonic sideskirts, and rear add on pieces and cefiro headlights and front lip. Lastly maybe some 18's or 19's and that is it.

Any one know if the headers are worth it over the y-pipe?
