Well, following phenryiv1's suggestion on my CarDomain site a few months ago about getting new wheels, I recently picked up a dirt cheap set of four wheel's with Kumho Ecsta performance tires with good tread ($440) from a friend. The wheels are 17" replicas of a 19" double-spoke option wheel for an M3, but have universal badging.

Anyway, I knew the offsets were different (I have the 15" 27 spoke stock wheels with the 40 offset, and I believe the new wheels have an offset of 20) but I figured if I couldn't get them to fit, I would just sell them later on anyway. I know they don't fit now, but I'm wondering if any guys with an I30 have used adapters or spacers to install new wheels with different offsets from stock.

I found an item on eBay that looks like it is supposed to do the trick, so hopefully someone knows if these things work or if there is another way for me to do this, or if it is even possible at all. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Those things will ruin your bearings. Good idea though. $140 for 4 pieces of billet carved in a college engineering lab. Lovely!

 

with a 20mm offset I bet your problem is going to be that they stick out way too far and spacers won't help that. Are they even the correct bolt pattern?

 

is it 20mm from the front of the rim? or the back?

I personally dont know why people mess with these rims. Just get ones that fit once and for all. Last thing you want is to drive down the road and your wheels destroy your fenders and suspension.

 

Going from a 40mm off set to a 20mm offset, all other things being equal, will make you wheels stick out 20mm further....so almost 1". Most likely the rims your looking at are like 7"-8" wide, so that will cause them to stick out even farther.

Good thing we have a really bad stock offset because it's almost impossible to go to to low of an offset.

 

Well, whether they fit or not from the getgo I was going to buy them simply because I am confident I can make a profit in selling these. The receipt my friend showed me says he paid over $1200 with tires, so I figured I could at least make 50-70 bucks.

Several questions:

What kind of car were these on before? Do you know the bolt pattern? Do you know the width? Why do you say that they will not fit the I30?

 

They were on a '93-'94 BMW 325 I believe. According to this website that I'm reading now, they are 17" x 8", with bolt pattern 5/120 and offset 20mm. I don't know too much about wheels to begin with anyway, but I tried putting the wheels on my car anyway just for the hell of it and for the sake of trying (and of course, they did not fit).

 

Off by 6.7 mm on the bolt circle, I am afraid.
