any how-to on taking apart the i30 dashboard

alright so i got a call from my boss wanting me to fix his car before i start work at 7.. its almost 5:30 now.

He is having a problem with the reciever, a tape is stuck in it. Could I just use a lockpick to pop it out, or would I have to take the dash part off and go from there. has anyone ever had this problem? I think its a 97 i30... not to sure though

So, you are trying to get the stereo out? If that is the case, I can help you. You need to pop the wood trim out from around the shifter.

Wait, you are trying to take out the tape that is stuck in the tape desk? OHK, I believe you can just get a tool or something that will fit into the deck. This happened to me on my old Honda Accord and I beliebe I just slid something in there and giggled it a little bit and and it finally poped out. If that does not work let me know and We can work on it from there.

weird. Sorry ot hear the tape didn't come out. I swear I jiggles the tape with some sort of flat small tool when this happened to me in my old Honda and it poped out. I will keep thinking about other options for you buddy.

Maybe he can pick up a used Bose headunit on Ebay for cheap! I always see them there.

well...to take that apart...you need to pop the center AC vents out with a flathead screw driver.

then remove the vents.

after removing the vents it should reveal two screws going to the control panel of the AC. leave those alone for now...

now pop off the transmission cover(burlwood colored) with a flathead also...remove the wiring for the cig lighter.

after that transmission part is done...remove the ashtray....

now the other screws for the headunit and stuff are exposed....

this is the farthest i've gone...so yeah...hopefully the instructions help...
