Gas Guage Question

I replaced my 96 I30 guages with 1997 white faced Maxima SE guages a while back and I have noticed that ever since doing that, my gas mielage seems to be lower. Of course it is not lower, but the maxima SE gas guage seems to drop a lot faster than the Infiniti guage did.

Is there a difference in the 96 I30 guages and the 97 Maxima SE guage? They both should be identical as far as how they work and measuring gas in the car correct?

The gas guage works and when I fill up, the needle goes all the way to full, but I put 97 miles on the car since my last fill up and the needle is already down to the 3 quarters line already?? I used to get about 300 + miles to a tank of gas and it seems that now (according to the guage reading) get about 250 270 to a tank.

Please help oh smart ones who know about this..

Thanks.

Maybe the cool gauges are causing you to spend more time with your foot on the gas.

It is not something I would be worried about. You actual gas mileage is not going to change...for example, just because it takes 100 miles to get to the 1/2 mark does not mean that you will get 200 miles to a tank. My gauge falls really slow at the top and really slow at the bottom and fast in the middle. But as long as I get the total mileage I usually get it does not really matter
