I30t 5 speed - rare?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had yearly production figures for I30's and if so, how many of those were manual?

I just brought home my new-to-me 1999 I30t! I have been looking for a 5 speed max or I30 for a while, and I'm glad I found the I30. From what I can tell, it's fully loaded for its model year save heated seats (and automatic, of course). I think they call the color "cypress" w/ beige interior. I would have preferred the black interior, but who cares- this thing is fun to drive.

a 99 5spd is really rare, I believe they made less and less of them from 96-99. I do know that the 4th gen max was around 10% 5spd. The I30 would be way less than that.

Post some pics, I have a dark green w/ tan leather in a 5spd as well.

Welcome

Why should he check coil packs? does it have anything to do with engine idling rough?

99 coil packs are known to suck b@lls.... If you can get brand new ones under warranty... why not! It causes a CEL because of the misfire on cyl. It makes sort of a jerking motion while sitting, you will know if you have it!

I have asked because I have a 96" I30 and it idles rough, and I mean rough. I have already swapped 2 coils because I have read somewhere on net that they should have a resistance of 21.8ohm (if i remember correctly) between terminals. I have found 2 to be around 16ohms and bought new ones but it still idles rough. Sometimes it is so rough that interior vibrates and sometines its just minor. One morge thing is that soetimes when its cold outside and ill try to start the car, it will start but will drop rpms to 400 and stall, and it will continue to do so unless ill step on accelerator pedal for few seconds and keep it revving and than it will go to normal. my friend had the same thing with his 99 accord and his mechanic changed some kind of air bypass valve and it fixed the problem but i donk know if this car uses the same thing.... overall im happy with my car except for vibrations and occasional startup problems.

thanks for replay, regards, Bart.

What the hell is up with 96s and bad idle! My friend owns a 96 I30t with the exact same problem. At start up and at stop lights, the car will idle at about 400 rmps, and sometimes stalls. then it got worse and the idle was always at 250!!! One time the idle was jumping up and down by 500 rpms!!!We cleaned his TB and that helped, but the thing now idles at 400 again!!!

He also has slow driver's window motor, burned out antenna motor, non working speedo (a swift pound on the dash will bring back to life), a VSS CEL, various burned out lights on the auto temp control, non working CD player, multiple exhaust leaks (3 in. diameter hole in the flex pipe on the y pipe, and leak where the muffler bolts on to the b pipe), corrosion all over battery cables, rusted radiator support beam, leaking transmission bearings ($1500 repair), and finally missing chrome trim around the rear driver's side window... And he actually thinks the previous owner took meticulously good care of the car...

All of this in happened in the past 20k (he has had it for 30K). The funny thing is he thinks his car is still the king beacuse it is a "black on black stick". I tell him man your car is so sh!tty it might as well be a chevy!!

Anyways sorry to ramble... good work on the rare find... let's hope it treats you better than above...

MIL= malfunction indicator lamp.

2000 I30 5-speed will have to be home-made; no such factory animal.

No I don't. I already put on my stockers with all season rubber for the wicked CO winters... The rims are damned nice though. They are six spoke, 17 inch, gun metal, with a polished chrome lip. It looks absolutely perfect with the gold color bacause it provides the perfect amount of off set!

On the subject of manual trannies, What would it take to swap the 6-speed tranny from 03 max into an 03 I35?

Any thoughts?

I doubt I will ever do this, but just curious and throwing this out there for other's thoughts.

Thanks, Les

Edit: I'm sure the computer would need to be reprogrammed or replaced.

This has been discussed before... We came to the conclusion that it would be a fairly strait forward swap. The only reason that it has never been done is because ALL I35s are still under FULL warranty and most owner do not want to negate that.

I would say that if you had the ***** to say screw the warranty, and do it, you would have the total respect and envy from EVERYBODY on this entire website, for you will have done what no man has done before!!

Should I make a new thread? Im still taunted by this erratic behavior. Just cant find the answer... and its getting cold and the startup problem shows up again !!

You could. Or try starting one on the 4th gen Maxima forum. After all, it is the same car, and I am sure they have had issues with it as well.

I told my friend to suck it up and pay the $100 for a reputable mechanic's diagnosis. Then we will know for sure.
