How long does it take for you car to heat up?

Okay, so it's starting to get cold outside, and I'm wondering is there is something wrong with my car. It never seems to get warm. The thermostat(sp?) barely gets above C, and the heat seems to never get HoT. I drove yesterday from richmond back to d.c. and my gauge needed barely moved. Then last night, driving back from a friends house the same thing happened, plus the heat never seemed to warm up despite the fact i had it on 85 the entire trip? Anybody else have this problem. All I can say is thank goodness for heated seats!!!

Well, i am afraid that I can not offer much advice on this subject, but I can tell you how long it takes my car to heat up to give you an idea of another I30. I would say about 5 minutes max is how long my car takes for the temp needle to geach the middle of the guage and for the heat to be warm.

Hope that helps? Sorry to hear about your issue, but I would say something is definately wrong, I just dont't know what.

Mine takes 3-5 min, and runs about 1/2 way between c & middle of gugage. My Heater gets hot in about 2-3 min if that.

You need to change the thermostat. It is simple and cheap....

Although it ain't exactly minnesota, i'm on my way outside now, and it shows 39 on weatherbug, with an expected low of 27 tonight.

I was just doing some maintenence this evening - Rochester NY, around 30 degrees F outside. From ice cold, I ran her in neutral at 2kRPM and the temp gauge was at 40% in 3 minutes.

Haha, or not!

Max Mutes, I wish we could say the same. It's been snowing here in the mornings for the past week or two... then up to 50 a couple of hours later. Random Rochester weather!!

It aint good to warm your car before driving, just start her up and take off, don't rev past 3.5k rpm when cold, but warming her up in N is the badest thing you can do to your engine.

go get a new thermostat and flush your coolant while you're at it. i just did mine, the thermostat and gasket cost $15 total, the only semi expensive part was the coolant. read the fluids and lubricant forum and learn how to do it yourself, or go out and pay someone to do it but prepare to dish out a lot that way. it's very easy though so i recomend you do it yourself.

my heat is almost too good now and the temp gauge goes to the middle relatively quick after i've been driving. before it used to sit at the bottum most of the time and then sometimes go to normal middle operating temp. goodluck

That is absurd! Where did you get that info? I let mine warm up to where the needle just passes the C mark and the climate contol starts blowing hot air out of the vents.

It's done, way to easy to pay anybody to do. I already noticed the difference tonight. for $20 i guess i should have done this miles ago. My car has 196K, so some things have been on it since the start.
