Check engine light
Check engine light
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I just bought a 2001 I30. While driving it home from the dealership the check engine light turned on. When I got home I called the guy who sold it to me and he told me that he put gas in the car while it was running and that was probably the reason. He also said that it would eventually cycle itself off. Has anyone had experience with this?
The guy could be right. People have seen CELs from not having their gas cap on tight enough.
I think it's supposed to reset within like 40 mi or something.
Is the car running fine? If the light stays, take it to Autozone and have them pull the codes.

What they said. I had the same issue with our Explorer. I pulled into an Express Oil Change place and they wanted $75 to hook my wife's explorer up. I went to AutoZone or Advanced Auto, you know the red building...and got a test done for free. I bought a new gas cap and that solved the problem. Apparently there was an issue with the seal around the gas cap.
